Lennart C. "Lenny" Vanerstrom Jr., 62, formerly of Burnside Ave., who resided at the Bradford Ecumenical Home, went peacefully to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, on September 8, 2010, after a lengthy battle with COPD and Cancer.
Born December 29, 1948 in Bradford he was a son of the late Lennart C. Vanerstrom Sr. and Frances D. (Sherrick) Vanerstrom-Gross. Lenny was a lifelong resident of Bradford and attended Hobson Place Elementary School, School Street Junior High, and graduated from Bradford High School in 1966.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in March, 1968, where he served his country proudly in Viet Nam. Lenny extended his service in Viet Nam six months to obtain an early release. Lenny received the National Defense Service Medal, the Marksman Badge for the M-14, The Viet Nam Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar. He was honorably discharged in October, 1969. After his discharge he married the late JoAnn Nash.

Lenny worked various jobs in the Bradford area. His last job was as a security guard for Dresser Mfg. He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed visiting with his friends there. Lenny had an engaging smile and a great laugh. He will be missed.

Surviving is one son, Len C. Vanerstrom III of Atlanta, two brothers: David (Kris) Vanerstrom, Burlington, Iowa, Alan ‘Carl’ (Azucena) Vanerstrom, of Bradford, and one sister, Karen (Don) Sipko, of Bradford and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, September 11th at 2:00pm in the Living Waters Church 3036 W. State St., Olean, with the Rev. Mike Nolder, pastor officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
