Martha M. Ceperko, 93, of Water St., Smethport, PA

SMETHPORT- Martha M. Ceperko, 93, of Water St., died Monday (Sept. 20, 2010) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born January 17, 1917, in Braddock, PA, she was a daughter of Andrew G. and Mary V. Bohnovic Wargo. On February 18, 1950, in Braddock, PA, she married Stephen Ceperko, who died December 1992.

Mrs. Ceperko graduated from the Braddock High School and began working for Sach’s Dept. Store in Braddock, and later with the Philadelphia Co. of Pittsburgh. She resided in the Pittsburgh area most of her life. She moved to Smethport in 1998, to be near her daughter.

She was an avid volunteer. She was an historian for the Davidson Elementary School PTA, school secretary for St. John the Baptist School, Plum Boro, PA, and a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. While living in Smethport, she volunteered for Port Allegany Elementary School Library and Art Department, Hamlin Memorial Library, Office of the Aging, and stamp ministry for the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Plum Boro, PA, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Smethport. Martha was a life member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.

Surviving is a daughter, Mary Martha (Terry) Palmer of Smethport; a nephew, Andrew A. Wargo of Scottsdale, AZ; five nieces, Patricia Clark of Scottsdale, AZ, Mary Anne (Francis) Pendola of Mystic, CT, Margaret (Jeffrey) Fischbeck of San Diego, CA, Christine Sheppard of Richmond, VA, and Elizabeth (Dennis) Davis of Kane, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stephen, two brothers, Leo and Andrew Wargo; and two sisters, Agnes Wargo and Cecilia Burye.

Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 26, 2010) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 28, 2010) in St. John the Baptist Church, Plum Boro, PA, with Rev. Leo Gallina, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Plum Boro.

Memorials can be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Memorial Fund or the Hamlin Memorial Library Building Fund, both of Smethport.
