Multiple Vehicle Crash Injures Four Near Emporium Wednesday

4 Injured In Emporium Crash
Four people were transported to Elk Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries received in a multiple vehicle crash on Route 120, a mile west of Old West Creek Road in Shippen Township on Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers said the 3:35 pm crash occurred as three vehicles were stopped in the westbound lane of Route 120 for a stopped school bus.

A 1997 Subaru, driven by Sara M. Heverly, 16, of Emporium, PA, was traveling west and failed to stop. Her vehicle struck the rear of a 2004 Saturn driven by Paula J. Tamburlin, 40, of Kersey, PA and her passenger, Carol Wilson, 38, of St. Marys, PA.

Tamburlin's vehicle was pushed into the rear of a 2002 Hyundai driven by John C. Major, 38, of Emporium, PA, and passengers, June Ann Major, 27, a 12 year old female, and a 6 year old female, all of Emporium, PA.

Major's vehicle was then pushed into a 1987 Honda Motorcycle, operated by John J. Cappiello, 47, of St. Marys, PA.

Sara Heverly, Paula Tamburlin, Carol Wilson, and June Major were transported to Elk Regional Medical Center by Emporium and St. Marys ambulances.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts, and Cappiello was wearing a helmet.

The three cars all suffered disabling damages and were towed from the scene. Capiello's motorcycle received only minor damage and was driven from the scene.

Troopers were assisted by Emporium Fire Department, Emporium Boro Police, Emporium Ambulance, and St. Marys Ambulance.

Police said summary charges will be filed against Heverly in District Court.
