PITT IMPROVERS IMPROV GROUP KICKS OFF FREE SHOWS

PITT IMPROVERS IMPROV GROUP KICKS OFF FREE SHOWS

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt Improvers, a student improvisational group at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, will perform its first free monthly show of the academic year Sept. 16.

The all-ages show will take place from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons.

Performers will be students from last year’s improv team, including Morgan Back, a sports medicine major from Auburn; Manny Diamant, a psychology major from New Hope; Nick Jones, a writing major from Ardmore; Chris Hooks, a health and physical education major from Elmira, N.Y.; Kyle Renwick of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; Brian Roberts, an athletic training major from New Albany; Brandon Tully, an interdisciplinary arts major from Bradford; Kate Yeagle, a broadcast communications major from Newville; and club advisers Tim and Kristin Asinger.

The 2010-11 team will be formed after auditions in mid-September. The monthly shows are full of favorite games containing scenes that are made up on the spot. The audience provides suggestions, and the team runs with it.

“We all just love performing,” said Kristin Asinger, who is also a visiting professor of sports medicine. “You never know what is going to happen during a show. Many times it’s just hilarious.”

This is the third year for the Pitt Improvers on campus. In addition to holding shows both on and off-campus, the group plans to participate in Kiwanis Kapers, perform for fundraisers to benefit local nonprofit agencies, offer workshops, visit local schools and take a trip to New York City for intensive improv training.

Additional dates for the monthly performances, all of which will be held from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the University Room, are Oct. 14, Nov. 18, Jan. 27 and March 31.
