Port Allegany Man Hurt In Motorcycle/ Deer Crash Wednesday Morning

Major Injuries In Crash With Deer
A Port Allegany man was transported to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Wednesday Morning for treatment of major injuries after his motorcycle struck a deer that entered the road in front of him in Norwich Township, McKean County.

State Police said the crash occurred as Herbert G. Witter, Jr, 62, of Port Allegany, PA, was operating a 2005 Yamaha FJR 1300 south on Route 46 near Spring Run Road. A deer entered the roadway from the left berm and into the travel lane. Witter was unable to avoid striking the deer with the front of his motorcycle.

The impact caused Witter to lose control with both Witter and the motorcycle sliding south on Route 46 about 180 feet before coming to rest near the west berm.

Witter was transported to Charles Cole Hospital by Priority Care Ambulance for treatment of major injuries after the 9:30 am crash. Police said Witter was wearing a helmet.

Norwich Township Fire Dept. assisted with traffic control. The motorcycle was removed from the scene by McKeirnan's Garage.

We hope Herb has a speedy recovery, and him and his family are in our prayers. I have known the family for years and this is such a tragedy. The Taylors
