Sharon Center Resident Writes About Leaking Gas Main

Residents: We reported gas smell days before deadly blast

Jim

As I read the above headlines I a dismayed at my own experience with a leaking 24” line within 100 Yards of my home in Sharon Center.

I called the 800 # on the pipeline marker in May 2010. That afternoon my wife found a service man replacing our gas meter on the house.

She questioned him and he replied. “you called in a leak didn’t you?” She then physically showed him the 100 sqr. Ft. of brown grass on the pipeline in our

Lawn. He place flags all over the lawn. Again that was in May, nothing since. Upon seeing the headlines of the fires in Calf. This morning I became concerned even more.

I call the “Dept. of Environmental Protection” , guess what? They don’t oversee pipelines, Dept. of Transportation does. I called them they never returned my call.

I have recalled the emergency 800 # for national fuel and not much satisfaction with that one again. They aren’t sure whose line it is.

I have contacted our State rep. we see what that does. In the mean time if Sharon Center blows up please forward this Email to some one that cares.

IF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IS NOT IN CHARGE OF PROTECTING MY FAMILIES ENVIRONMENT WHO IS?

You can also report this to the PUC, they will put a foot in the gas companies butt for you...

they dont do nothing cause it cost them money..i would repeatdly call them everyday or call 911 everyday until they get there lazy @$$'s out there and fix it

years ago i worked for a company repairing and maintaning underground pipelines in this area that type of work stopped 20 years ago because the companys didnt want to spend the money to take of them its cheaper to pay one lawsuit every ten or so years than to do yearly upkeep !!!

3:47 is right... Call the PUC and open a case. They will get the results you are looking for. After the company responsible for the leak fixes the problem , they will try and have you drop the case. DO NOT ! Leave it open in case there are future leaks or trouble with the gas line.

That is a National Fuel Gas transmission line in Phils yard.

UGI has a 6 inch line that runs through there. If it were the 24 inch line we would have been on the news by now

The PUC is the way to go. They get action. I wrote them a few years ago about leaks in our area. We got most of them fixed in a few months. Now a few years later they are finally replacing the line, because they have one leak that they can't stop. Keep on them, there is no reason for all these gas leaks around this area.

light it, that should get somebody's attention

Too bad it take a catastrophe to get people's attention to these gas proglems. Why isn't it common knowledge who to report these leaks and problems to? Who let these companies come bury gas lines and not be responsible? Who ....... WE THE PEOPLE ! WE neec changes, drastic changes in our elected officials, and hold accountable those who are supposed to be protecting and sustaining us.

yes, call the PUC...I did last year and now UGI is FINALLY replacing the gas line up the eleven mile in Chrystal. We have called and complained about the poor gas line and the leaking for over 15 years. Our old neighbor even used to light the leaking line on FIRE, but they still wouldn't fix it. They'd just put a clamp on it and in a week it would be leaking next to the clamp!

Chances are it is not the 24" transmission line leaking, it would have blowed up by now if it were

There is a bad leak in the Hebron area. I drive that road everyday. Smell of natural gas most mornings.
