BRADFORD FARMERS MARKET A COMPETITOR FOR PEPSI REFRESH PROJECT

BRADFORD FARMERS MARKET A COMPETITOR FOR PEPSI REFRESH PROJECT THIS MONTH

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Center for Rural Health Practice needs supporters of the Bradford Farmers Market to vote for a grant proposal it submitted in this month’s Pepsi Refresh Project.

The request is for $25,000 that would help to expand the number of vendors at the market, which was held twice a month this summer in the parking lot of Old City Hall on Boylston Street in Bradford. The market is cosponsored by the center and the Downtown Bradford Business District Authority.

If selected, the grant would also help promote the market, provide health education materials to customers, recruit volunteers, provide transportation for senior citizens to attend the market and distribute tents and tables for seasonal growers who cannot afford them.

Each month, Pepsi accepts a thousand applications for grants at four different funding levels. They let the public vote on them on its website for one month, then fund 32 winners. In order to receive the grant, the Rural Health proposal would have top place in the top 10 of 250 entries.

“This is a unique opportunity for the Bradford Community to support our farmers’ market and the role it can play in improving the nutritional and social health of our community,” said Dr. Youmasu J. Siewe; director of the Center For Rural Health.

Visitors to the Pepsi site are asked to set up a free account and are allowed to vote daily for up to 10 ideas. They may vote by logging onto www.refresheverything.com/farmersmarket, clicking on the Pepsi Refresh widget on the center’s website at www.upb.pitt.edu/crhp.aspx or by texting 102858 to Pepsi (73774).
