Chesapeake Energy to upgrade SR 1001 in Bradford County

Chesapeake Energy to upgrade SR 1001 in Bradford County

Motorists in Bradford County are advised that State Route 1001 (Clapper Hill Road) in Tuscarora and Stevens townships will be upgraded by Chesapeake Energy.

Starting today, a detour will be in effect for through traffic. The detour will direct through traffic to use Steam Hollow Hill Road and Spring Hill Road. Local traffic access will be maintained.

The work will take place along the entire 6.2-mile length of Clapper Hill Road, from the intersection with Route 367 to the intersection with Spring Hill Road.

The gas company’s road contractor will reclaim the existing roadway and roadway base material, which involves grinding of the roadway to a depth of approximately 15 inches, adding cement to the soil, mixing it and compacting it. The reclamation will be followed by the placement of seven inches of blacktop pavement.

The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 31.

The gas company hired a contractor to upgrade the road so it will be able to support heavy-truck traffic. The road is currently posted with a year-round, 10-ton weight restriction. Chesapeake has an excess maintenance agreement with PennDOT and is responsible for repairs to damages caused by its heavy trucks. Chesapeake determined that it would be more cost-effective in the long run to upgrade the road rather than continue to make continuous repairs.
