Coudersport Peewees finish season with some questionalble calls

Photos by R. J. Haskins

A series of bad calls at the games end cost the Peewees a tie with the Black Lions team of Wellsville.

The game was very evenly matched and hard fought by both sides. The Coudy team should hold their heads high though as they were very impressive as a first year program and they definitely let everyone in the Olean Youth Football league know that we are and will be a force in the future years ahead.

Great job guys I really enjoyed shooting your games!

Great article....lets start the litrle guys off right by blaming the refs. Teach them early to hold someone else accountable and nothing will be their fault the rest of their lives.

Yep your right poster 8:31. They should absolutly blame themselves for this loss. They are the ones that told the time keeper to stop the the clock when no one called time out, They are the ones that told the ref's to allow the other players to hold, facemask, and clip them for the extra challenge.

So they should hang there head low and realize they are the ones that screwed up!

If any thing these kids learned a life lesson. Life isn't fair and there is always someone there to manipulate the outcome of pretty much everything there is.

No he is right in this case. The clock should have run out and the game should have ended in a tie. The kids all knew they got the short end of the stick. Pretty sad when someone has to manipulate a game like that for a win. The game should have ended in a tie and all of the kids could have ended a season on a happy note. Some of these towns we play do not have the same values that are taught here. Things like dirty play on the field and following the rules of the games. The Coudersport coaches did an amazing job in promoting sportsmanship and clean play all year. Great job guys.

well 1st poster were you at the game? if not you didnt see the last 10 seconds of the game did ya so shut the hell up!!!

8:31, thats typical coudersport. Have you ever been to a sporting event against coudy. Very poor sportsmanship by a majority of them

The falcon Peewees were robbed of a tie or a win both teams were good. but the officials and parents of the black lions should be ashamed of how they acted and represented their team.

If you were at the game, you would fully understand the article. These kids were truly cheated out of an undefeated season by the men in stripes. The rules of the game were broken and time should have expired with the game ending in a tie. It is a shame that the season ended this way and I feel sorry for the coaches who had to explain to a group of 8 & 9 year olds that they were just cheated by a group of adults who are being paid to officiate a game. If this was in Coudersport, I would be asking for a refund...

well,i think your wrong, my son plays for the port allegany pee wee team and there has been really bad calls all season. these refs dont know what they are doing. and when i say bad calls i mean on both sides of the game.. not just against port, but then again we never seen anything about ports pee wee team on this blog.
i dont care that port lost most of their games, the kids had a lot of fun playing.

8:31 - i would 99 out of 100 times agree with what you are saying, but if you were at the game and witnessed how it ended you would understand. bad calls throughout the game is one thing, but in this particular case the final play was run with both teams scattered all over the field, no time on the clock, injured players on the ground from the previous play. hard to describe, but just as it was a bad way to lose it was a bad way to win. really not sure what the officials were thinking as they could have let the "tie" stand. i've been in sports all my life and seen much worse officiating, but i never saw anything as bizarre as the way they let this game end.

To the first poster: I am a parent of a Coudy Pee Wee. I was at that game. EVERYBODY agrees that the calls were horrible! They also stopped the clock when it should have been running, so Wellsville conveniently scored and won. You are ignorant with your words....how about the Wellsville kids learning from THEIR refs that it is o.k. to cheat to win?!

Post 8:31, DITTO, well said. It's not win or lose,it's how you played the game in ALL sports. Far to often I have seen parents blame the refs, the coaches, other team mates, etc. It makes me sick. That is not teaching team work & espically sportsmanship. It's not a wonder where our kid's problems stem from these day's.

Now there is an objective account. Do fans from the other team agree that this outcome was the result of bad calls? Maybe it was but I'd like to hear that from the other side to verify.

So what.......... There were some bad calls and it caused the boys to lose. Life goes on and so will them boys. Perhaps my fellow Coudersport Parents should stop living their life through their children and allow the kids to be kids. How bout taking the bad calls and the clock stopping to the organization to take action on instead of bitchin and doing nothing about it. There ya go, lets teach the children that....... Lets teach them to not man up to the unfair part of life and teach them to sit back, complain, and do nothing. But then again, it seems like this place if full of bigots.

This was just a terrible thing. Rules are rules and we teach the kids the rules for a reason. The game was a tie but what was the most disturbing to me was how the Wellsville coaches acted. They jumped and yelled like they had won the Superbowl. The game is for these kids to learn and it is not for the coaches to relive something missing from their own childhoods. The refs were just horrible, the clock keeper obviousely manipulated the clock in Wellsvilles benefit. They should be ashamed. But I would bet they are not.

It happens in all sports as well in life.Pro Football College Football even High scool football
as well as in any other sports.
If you watched the Steeler and Miami game.that is part of life.Get over it I know the kids will until the parent's bring it up
Life is life that is what it is.you win some you lose some.

8:31 thank you for saying outloud what everyone in the surrounding counties already knows, that coudy has a different set of rules. when any team plays coudy at home the sentiment is that coudy is mean, poor sports and are flat out hateful. lets look inward and see what the problem is at home before we start accussing others of the very thing we are at fault of. will this ever change, probably not. not as long as coudy thinks they are better that everyone else (not only in sports). sportmanship should start at home with everyday values & respect for each other.

Is this what they call "HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE? or "THE TWELTH MAN"??

I was shocked when I read this as "news" on this site. Really??? I understand "bad calls" --- it has happened to every team in every sport along the way - but does it really make the news? As a parent, I do believe that your coaches handled it well with the players - but it sounds like the parents are having more trouble than the kids.
Good for Coudy for being undefeated through the season -- but its PEEWEE football really - its meant to be about teaching the basics and having fun.

I think some people on here sound like real dildines. I mean I seen the pictures on here before about the Pee Wee football and I thought hey thats cool they are teaching the younger kids football. I never paid no attention to the scores and actually I didn't even know they was keeping scores I thought they were just playing kind of like scrimmaging.
Like in the 7th grade halftime games you know?
Good comments on here about the parents getting all whigged out. I think the kids should be PLAYING and LEARNING and not worry about winning and giving the refs a buncha crap.

I went to every football game and no my child didnt play she was a cheerleader.. if you would of went to a game and seen what i saw every game.. them boys worked and played very hard..they was awesome.. they had that look in their eye (pride)you couldnt ask for better coaches and alot of team work!!!so for the rude people you should of went to one game and I bet you would change what you wrote 8:31 and your little followers!!and 9:02 maybe some are like that but not all so get it right!!!I was always told to treat others how you want to be treated!!!so maybe it was just you!!9:21 football is a sport and last I knew sports is part of the news even on tv!!and they posted stuff every week!!I dont live through my kids but I will stand behind and stick up for them every step of the way!! thats what you call a real parent!!oh and my mother taught me to stand up for what is right and dont take shit from nobody!!!and I will teach my kids the same!!

ok everyone i am a parent of a coudy peewee player and i was at the game and i was standing rite under the announcer and the clock was stopoped for a penalty according to him was he right i dont know and dont care it was a call good or bad and thats sports now my concern was with my sons safety the peewees would have won if the coaches had played more of the team instead of benching the one half of the team my son was so tired by that last play he could have been seriously hurt and that infuriates me because they had im guessing around 22 other players on that team that would have helped the team pull a win but the win isnt important nor is a bad or good call its the child safety and they gave no care of that they were only worried about the win. Thanks to the program but you dropped the ball on the pee wees.

12:13 AM... "I dont live through my kids but I will stand behind and stick up for them every step of the way!! thats what you call a real parent!!oh and my mother taught me to stand up for what is right and dont take shit from nobody!!!and I will teach my kids the same!!" That's right, don't take no 'shit' from nobody.... That's funny. Well, I hope you are teaching your child grammar along the way as well. Perhaps if you would like to teach them the correct way to stand up for themselves, make a formal complaint to the organization requesting action to be taken. Then, you would actually be teaching your child something constructive in life. Perhaps you are just as spineless as your words, and put on a nice front to your child. Children are pretty easy to influence ya know..... I bet your Momma is soooo proud of you........ You're a real parent that don't take no shit! HAHAHAHA

The black lions team is a team full of coaches kids and best players. They had 40 kids this year like us but decided to create a super team and a not so super team. We on the other hand had 39 kids and went undefeated playing them all. They actually had one tie so we had the better record coming in. From what I have heard they wanted to play the super team against our best players. I think we should have just played our 39 against their 40 and not conceeded to their goofy team situation. Yes the clock was stopped because of a penalty but the ref never assessed the penalty on the field and when he restarted the clock it never moved. Safety and teaching are more imprtant than wins.

1. It is SO obvious that other schools are jealous of the Fighting Falcons of Coudersport.
2. To the parent who complained that their pee wee didn't get to play...too bad! Then don't put him in next year or have him be a better player so he will get played. I am so sick of parents knocking on the coaches all year. Do you realize how lucky we are to even have this program?! Nobody had to do it, but they did. Don't bite the hand that feeds.

Maybe i missed it but to post 12:29 i didnt see were anybody has complained that there kid didnt get played. yes i agree with 10:36 the team should not have been seperated this was suppose to be a learning process to good or not so good of players these kids havent even began to develop there abilities yet who is to say that the so called bad player in a year or two doesnt develope great running legs or the greatest arm to throw a football we dont know at this stage they should and this goes to all the teams out there should give them all play time at the peewee stage to prevent the dicouragement of that possible great player.in junior high and varsity then the cream can rise to the top and have your first string and second string etc that is the time to label a kid or person not when they havent hardly developed i just hope for the junior high varsity and even the ponies coachs that that potentially great player hasnt been discouraged to not continue playing.

9:12.... Typical mindset of someone that continues to make themself look like an idiot. Not smart enough to learn when to shut your mouth - always something smart to say. Are you really that stupid? Well, nevermind. Somple answer there - you are.....

I think Solomon's Words is informative and enjoyable. In fact I generally check it every day. To all of the bloggers comments negative or positive; I really don’t get it. Out of 28 blogs only one person put a first name! If you are so confident in your comments… why is it that you post everything as “Anonymous”? Just curious. Personally I don’t think Jim should allow blogs on any subject without a person’s first and last name. It would hold people accountable to their peers, family, etc. Not to mention it sure would be a whole lot easier to address a real person than the time they posted their blog! I know the policy of the local paper doesn’t allow Letters to the Editor without a name. I don’t believe that is much different. I guarantee if Jim changed his policy regarding the blogs we wouldn’t have nearly as many ignorant, negative and hateful postings about different topics!
