Just months after her graduation from Wellsboro Area High School, Abplanalp found herself with a barely functioning liver as the result of what her mother Joan said doctors called "autoimmune hepatitis," an inflammation of the liver that occurs when immune cells mistake the liver's normal cells for harmful invaders and attack them, according to Google Health.

Though doctors had no idea where the disease came from or how Montana contracted it, they didn't hold out much hope for the teen's survival.

How do I get a donation to these folks? A few years ago, a close relative of mine was seriously injured and the community pulled together and was so generous and giving. I was so deeply touched by all of the help and money that was given. Whenever I hear of another family in need in the area, I want to pay it forward and help out in turn.

Just a note from another mother coping with her child being seriously ill, it really helps to know that people in our area are generous and helpful in our time need. Never give up hope. Prayers to the family.
