Robert E. Froebel, 81, of Galeton, PA

Robert E. Froebel, 81, of Galeton, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2010 at his home.

Born January 8, 1929 in Coudersport, PA, he was a son of the late Herman and Eva (Dezutter) Froebel.

Bob was a 1948 Graduate of Coudersport High School. He was a Veteran, having served with the United States Army in the Korean War.

On October 1, 1955, at the St. Germain’s Catholic Church in Germania, PA, he married the former Teresa Geiser , who survives.

Bob worked at Dresser Manufacturing in Wellsboro for 33 years. He was a member of St. Bibiana’s Catholic Church in Galeton; the Galeton VFW Post #6611, where he was a former Commander of the Post; the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Third Degree Knight; and a former member of the Potter County Honor Guard.

Bob loved playing cards with his family and friends, especially pinochle, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, constructing fishing rods, fly tying, gardening, and trapping. He received the Pa Game Commission’s Triple Trophy Award in 1969 for bear, deer and turkey.

Surviving besides his wife of 55 years, Teresa Froebel, are, a son, Gregory (Cynthia) Froebel, Germania; two daughters, Melanie (Rick) Lechler, Germania, and Cindy (Curt) Shadle, Galeton; eight grandchildren, Lance and Jessica Dingman, Venessa Lechler, Alicia and Mathew Shadle, Jen, Jess, and Jeremiah Wagner; three great grandchildren, Rebekah and Brealyn Riddle, and Alexis Dingman; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by two sisters, Leona Hopper and Maxine Corbin, a brother, Buddy Froebel, a daughter-in-law, and a step-grandson.

Friends may call at the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton on Monday, October 4, 2010 from 6:00-8:00pm and at St. Bibiana’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 10:00-11:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with the Rev. Joseph Dougherty as Celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded by the Potter County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Potter County Hospice or to the Gale Hose Ambulance Association.
