Zone Heating can save you on your heating bills

Zone Heating can save you on your heating bills. It's a pretty simple concept that is widely practiced in other parts of the world: The basic premise is "Turn back the main heating system, and use Zone Heating for the needed warmth only where and when it is needed".

Zone heating focuses on three basics to reduce total home heating costs-
a) Reduces the size of the total area being heated
b) reduce the length of time that a specific area is being heated
c) use high efficiency appliances to heat the active areas as needed.

Almost everyone is aware of or has used a small electric or kerosene heater for extra warmth at times. With proper care and maintenance, most portable heaters can have a very long useful life. Kerosene heaters purchased in the 70's and 80's are still in use today.

Kerosene heaters especially need annual maintenance and clean, fresh fuel to operate properly. Old heaters that are put in storage "because it doesnt burn right anymore" can easily be revitalized, cleaned, and restored to optimum operating efficiency often with a simple cleaning and new wick. Wicks typically should be replaced at least once a year, and as part of wick replacement, usually, heaters are given a good cleaning and operational check.

One of the problems for many people is that while wicks are readily available at hardware stores, etc., Many people just don't have the mechanical knack for quick, efficient replacement, and there are just not very many places that offer the service.

However, there's a new shop in town that can clean, repair, and refurbish your old kerosene heater for very reasonable rates (as little as $19.95 for some small heaters in good condition) BG's Engine Clinic in Roulette is now an authorized dealer for Kero-World brand products, and is accepting all portable heaters for service. From small 5,000 BTU kerosene heaters to 650,000 BTU Commercial Barrel Heaters such as Desa, BG's Engine Clinic can service and repair most all brands of portable heaters. In addition to this service, there is also a full line of new and reconditioned heaters - Kerosene, Propane, Natural Gas, and Electric, for as little as $79.95.

For More information on Zone Heating or having your old heater serviced, stop by at BG's Engine Clinic at 191 Main Street in Roulette and talk to Brian, and pick up a free copy of our Zone Heat consumer's guide brochure. BG's website is being re-designed at the moment, but when it is completed, there will be downloadable PDF brochures available, so you can also bookmark and check back in November, when the new design is expected to be launched.
