this movie is a total waste of time. the producers need to get there facts straight!!! it is nothing more than a bunch of enviromental propaganda. there is hardly any truth to this movie!

What makes Dentist Pete Ryan an expert?

Be sure to see this movie, especially those who feel the pain of seeing untamed and unspoiled go away. Someone is right on this issue and someone is wrong. I think we should have a plaque with the names of the locals legislating and leasing for fracking so that those in the future can see who changed the area. If it is harmless/beneficial, it will be a plaque of the heroic harvesters that brought our gas rates down. If they are wrong, it will be a reminder to those who visit who brought the new Chernobyl to this area, damning our water for a quick buck.

I wasted my time and watched it. Tho its one sided, it does open your eyes. Its worth the time. Gives you more of an idea of what goes on. Some things made to look worse than what they actually are. But like with all subjects, watch it and form your own opinions. Dont listen to someone who works for the gas lines or from someone who is trying to validate thier monthly checks from the gas lease they sold.

I'm glad to see that we are going to have a screening of Gasland locally.
Potter County is fortunate to have Bill Belitkus come here and answer questions after the film.
Bill and his group have been fighting to protect the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) from the oil and gas industry and the environmental damage it causes for years.
If the previous(Friday, November 5, 2010 11:25:00 PM EDT) poster had ever participated in one of the "Forest watch training/walks" The ADP offers he would eat his words.
I have gone on Forest Watch Walks with the Allegheny Defense Project (ADP).
They (ADP) bring people on tours of remote drill sites in the ANF where you can see, first hand the un-lined frac pits,over-flowing retention ponds, spills, discharges, health, safety violations and other environmental damage.
The Allegheny Defense Project has many photos on their website of the environmental damage and other violations caused by oil and gas drilling industry and the lack of proper oversight by the DEP and other regulating authorities.

The previous poster said "The producers need to get their facts straight".What's more factual then seeing and hearing people's first hand account of what happened to them, their environment, health and tap water?
That is what you will see in Gasland.
Potter County has had 376 oil and gas violations issued since 2007.
They include industrial waste discharges and many other health and safety violations.
RE:there is hardly any truth to this movie!
You don't have to believe the people in the movie that tell you and show you how the contamination has effected their lives, health. They show you the water coming out of their taps all brown and bubbly.
You just keep that little head of yours buried in the sand.
For those of us who live in Potter County,376 violations is our "truth". You can read about the violations in Potter County at the DEP website and the Center for Healthy Environments and Communities reports.
"Pennsylvania violation categories by county" at:fractracker.org.
They compiled the information FOR the DEP so their reports are Factual.

11:25--> Thank you gas worker for putting out your propaganda about this movie.

PGC said there were no coyotes in PA.

Tobacco companies said there was no harm in smoking.

I could go on, but the point is already easily made.

Have a nice day. I'm going coyote hunting. May shoot a turkey if I see one too.

This is a farce. Most of this show has been shown as false propaganda. Please watch with an open mind.

hey 9:27 just so ya know buddy...

the PGC never said there are no coyotes in PA.

and last i checked but i could be wrong because i dont smoke but im pretty sure there is a thing called a surgeon general warning telling your right there in plain english that smoking in fact does kill.

Thalidomide was a good sedative

Vaccines are safe

The TSA gropes and molests you women and children so you can be safe

The US public health service never used human being as guinea pugs at Tuskegee

Yea, keep an open mind

Ask youself "Cui bono" "To whose benefit?" and you will have the answer

Look I can take a dil and add a dine and tell the world hey I just used a real word. But it isn't a real word. Same with this movie. A drib of information here and a drab of it there. Dribdrab is not a word. When you see this movie think dildine and dribdrab.

Anyone who uses that stupid word(dildine)is really lame.STOP USING THAT STUPID WORD!!!!! LOSER!!

8:22, You stated that "frac pits are unlined and retention ponds are overflowing". If you are so knowledgeable about the industry, why don't you state that most large scale natural gas exploration companies are not using frac pits any more. The flowback is stored in above ground steel tanks with two "layers" of containment. Not only is the flowback stored above ground (where potential issues are within viewing distance), almost 100% of the flowback is recycled and used for future frac jobs. I have been to hundreds of natural gas sites and I have never seen an operational flow back pit unlined.

You also displayed the total number of violations for Potter County. Once again, you are using scare tactics and rhetoric to drive home a point. I agree that no violations would be the best case scenario, but why don't you, or the DEP for that matter, differentiate between the varying degree of violation? Fact is, the majority of violations the DEP tracts are minor at best. Did you know the DEP has and does write violations for vehicles that may be leaking very small amounts of oil? I wonder why all the cars that are traveling the roadways in your pristine countryside are not treated the same way a truck that is entering a natural gas drilling site is.

Many of the "truths" portrayed in Gasland have been disproved many times over. The sad part is, people don't want to hear the truth, fear and terror sell so this is what you get.

Everyone thinks hydrolic fracturing is this brand new concept that everyone is just beginning to understand. Truth is this process has been around for many many years.

I would also like to know how an area dentist suddenly becomes an expert in the oil and gas industry. If showing this movie is not a one sided scare tactic, why weren't any representatives from an exploration company brought in for questions? I can answer that, because the public may actually see that people like Pete Ryan and Bill Belitkus shouldn't be answering questions about an industry they know very little about.

By the way 4:53, fracing does not have a K. Just goes to show how uneducated many of the people are. You can bitch about it but you can't even spell it.

Can you please cite the "specific facts" and any footnotes that are incorrect so I may reseach for myself and decide?

Anonymous said...

Doesn't anyone here have critical thinking skills? Nothing is ever black or white. Never take anything you read as the whole truth, the truth is usually in the middle. Wise up and quit trying to ram how good or how bad the gas and oil industry is for PA.

Well said!!!

I am thinking dribdrab like recommended above and will keep an open mind about this.

Hopefully there will be people on both sides of the issue attending the movie. People are entirely pro-gas can see another point of view. People who are anti-gas can hear the pro-gas arguments.

You can read a rebuttal to the disclaimers against Gasland at:

http://gaslandthemovie.com/about-the-film/affirming-gasland

I'm not anti-gas, I'm anti-fracing (without a 'k')

It’s not a Dentist who is the EXPERT; it’s an organization called TROUT UNLIMITED that claims to be the EXPERTS in every THING. Just ask them! Oh and they get their operation MONEY from grants, such as Growing Greener, which by the way is your TAX Money being miss used.

Post 10:54:00 Really?

Well said poster 9:38, as you can see, your most intelligent comment was overlooked. It is easier to get items passed in the government by getting folks emotional and they become blind to the truth. There are both RISKS and BENEFITS to everything. The great thing about our country-it is up to ME to decide what is best for ME and my family.
