Grants Available For Potter County Traffic Congestion

Tight Timeline For Traffic Congestion Relief Requests

Potter County Today

trafficsignalBoroughs and townships in Potter County are advised of a state grant program for projects to relieve traffic congestion. Timeline to apply for funds is tight, with a deadline of Tuesday, Nov. 30. Potter County Planning Director Charlotte Dietrich has suggested two local traffic control projects that might be candidates for the program: the Rt. 6 and Rt. 872 intersection in Ladona and the vicinity of the new Nittany Minit Mart in Galeton

About $7 million is available statewide through the Automated Red Light Enforcement grant program. More information is available from Dan Farley from the Bureau of Highway Safety and Traffic Engineering at 717-783-3033. There’s also a website that includes applications, eligibility requirements and programs guidelines, accessible here.

Um, there's already a fully functional traffic light about 150 feet from the new Nittany Mart in Galeton. It works fine. There is usually less than a minute wait if the light is red. What kind of traffic problem exists that more lights are needed? If the owners of Nittany Mart want a light to allow their customers to pull out of their business, seems to me that they should fully fund it out of their own pockets. Galeton does not need another traffic light.

The nittany mini mart does NOT need another traffic light. That is just ridiculous. One is needed in Coudersport by the Citizens and Trust Bank on Main street. It is impossible to get out of there on any good day. People are forced to either go right with the traffice just to get out or go back around by the jail and get out that way.

A light is not needed in Coudersport by the Citizens and Trust Bank. That intersection is too close to the 4 corners to have a light and there isn't enough traffic there to worry about. If it intersection is such an issue than sign it for right turns only and it won't be such an issue. The Ladona intersection would be a possible candidate for a radar controlled light dependent upon what the outcome of a traffic study would say.

I thought the traffic congestion was solved when Adelphia went belly up?

Why not eliminate all Main St parking in Coudy and make it two lanes each way? (About half the store fronts in Coudy are law offices anyways.)

This just another way our hard earned tax dollars are being wasted.

I agree with 10:00 PM there does need to be a traffic light there by the Citizen's bank. I don't know what 8:43:00 PM is talking about that there isn't that much traffic there, There is always so much traffic there that it is just like 10:00 PM said, that you can't get out unless you take a right hand turn. Everyone is always complaining about that intersection.

What I read here is to contact your township or borough if you have any ideas. Putting comments on here is probably not going to do much good. In Coudersport, call Mudd and let him know what you think. He listens. Everybody thinks everybody else is going to make these calls and then nobody does.

872 intersecting with Rt. 6 would be perfect. That place is a PITA to get out of at almost any time of the day.

Make 1st St from Main to North East St a one way street. NO traffic coming out onto Main St.

Rt. 872 and Rt. 6 needs a traffic light. Every time I drive over North Hollow to get to the cancer center, I have to wait a very long time before I get a break and can finally make that left-hand turn. I always have to give myself an extra 15 minutes just for that intersection. Not good when you are not well and need to get to that cancer center, or the hospital!

I can remember yearsssssssssssssss ago when there use to be a red/yellow flashing light at the Rt 6 - 872 intersection.

PS: There use to be a redlight on Main Street in Roulette when Rt 6 ran right thru it.
