SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Harriett A. Bean, 85, of Bean Lane, Shinglehouse, formerly of Ceres, NY, died at home surrounded by her loving family Saturday, November 27, 2010, after a long illness.

Born March 24, 1925 in Portville, NY, she was a daughter of Clarence F. and Nellie Young Barrett. On January 23, 1944 in Bolivar, NY, she married Arthur A. Bean, who survives.

Mrs. Bean attended the Ceres Country School and was a graduate of Bolivar High School, class of 1944.

She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Mrs. Bean’s greatest love was her family.

Surviving besides her husband are six children, Donna M. (James) Jordan of Friendship, NY, Thomas A. (Betty) Bean of Shinglehouse, Dale E. (Janet) Bean of Shinglehouse, Linda L. (Phill) Skiver of Shinglehouse, Monica A. (Chris) O’Brien of Humphrey, NY, and Charles L. (Nichole) Bean of Shinglehouse; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Barrett of Ceres, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bean was predeceased by a grandson; and two brothers, Clarence “Popeye” Barrett and Erwin “Bud” Barrett.

Friends may call on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse where funeral services will be held at 11 am. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Pastor Paul Thompson of the Cloe United Methodist Church, Punxsutawney, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar, NY.

Flowers are gratefully declined and will be provided by the family. Memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 98, Shinglehouse, PA 16748; the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 475, Shinglehouse, PA 16748; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
