While we all feel for the victim's family and friends we all must realize that harvesting the economic benefits of this Devonian bounty will not be without its perils.

Its only going to get worse. This is just the start of whats to come. Lock your doors. =(

Those men were bad people. It doesn't matter where they worked. Most Gas well drilling men are just there to earn money to support their family. This is like saying if a cop or even a local convenience store clerk killed someone that all cops and convenience store clerks are bad people. Thats just wrong. And as for the comment from 6:14. It doesn't matter with locking your doors now that all the drilling rigs are here to say that its just getting started is preposterous. Something like this could have happened anytime anyplace. Its not just getting started. Its been happening. Not with the classification of the drilling rigs moving in. It doesn't matter where they work. Killing has gone on for a long time. Longer than you have been alive.

Is it fair to blame an entire industry on a tragic event? I don't think so. My husband, son and myself (that's right I'm female) are all members of the oil and gas industry. The worst offense anyone of us has every committed is a traffic violation. Like many readers we live in small town USA. For all the environmentalist out there the oil and gas industry (mainly Marcellus) is here in PA to stay for a very long time, sorry get use to it. For all those who want to keep your home towns from being invaded by outsiders, get a job in the oil and gas field and do the jobs the outsiders would otherwise be doing. If you don't want the men and women of the industry spend there time in your bars attend your monthly town meetings and suggest to the business minded people to create alcohol free establishments for them to relax from their long hard hours. Instead of complaining find ways to profit from them.

Well said!

Thank you to the Anonymous user 12:16. You are I both agree that this had nothing what so ever to do with the drilling and oil rigs. It has to do with the people. Not where they work. Way to put it. I only hope that someday everyone will understand that, and I hope that I helped get that through their minds as you have.

Very well said 12:16,1:21 & 1:46 . This has nothing to do where people work. It's idol minds that need to work and stay out of trouble.

I suppose you are going to blame all these house breakins on the gas men. Get a life. Perople in this area are really seeing bad times and instead of finding a job they are just robbing people. It is NOT the gas men. It is the people that need drugs.

12:16:00 PM Very well said... My husband has been working in this field sense it came to this area and well I havent known him to break the law other then traffic violations.. I know many people that do work right beside him and they are very dedicated family men and women.... I also ran a bar in this area and will be the first to say that there was 8 times out of 10 more of a problem with local people starting things then with rig workers.

I too agree very much so that this has NOTHING to do with where someone works, it has to do with what kind of a person you are. Killing, stealing, and just plain being an a** has been around much longer then any of us can remember but its all been ok because it was someone we knew or were related to that was doing these things. Now sense there are some bad apples in the bushel so to speak well we've never heard of such a thing... Give me a break

wow. person murdered. gas driller/industry employee is charged to have done it and the focus appears to be complaints about how it makes the industry appear and the fact that it was stated that the charged person is a part of the industry? of course because we all know that whats important is how drillers/industry appear. (sarcasm) not the fact that a person was murdered because of apparently expecting a renter to show some decency and respect to others. don't think a person deserved to die because a allegedly intoxicated whatever chose to be and do whatever it wanted because it felt like it. there are locals who could care less how the drillers and their industry look.

Very much agree, my heart goes out to the family of this man... So sad they must go through something such as this over any reason...

1:37:00 PM You are right, this was taken way of the point and thats sad in itself. I myself took it off the subject at hand and though I agree with what I wrote we shouldnt care how a place of business looks or appears this is such a shame that this had to happen in the first place.

The peron or persons that are guilty of this crime should pay for what they did for whatever reason. There is no excuse for actions like this.

My heart goes out to the family of this man and I hope they find peace at this terrible time....

So I am writing to say.. That I do feel very bad for the family, And that Everyone involved in this is charged and pays for what they have done. All of the comments that were written By the people defending the Industry defended it Because not only was it just "stated" like 1:37 said. It was talked about 5 times in the 3 minute and 16 second video. It wasn't just "Stated". I do feel very bad for the family. Its horrible that a man was murdered in his own home. It is indeed a very sad thing. And I am praying for their family, and Friends.

But for the people in the video to say that they are "outraged at the things and changes happening around the Wellsboro Area, That there is more to the story than what meets the eye, That it raises questions whether gas drilling is bring in unsavory Characters to the neighborhood. We have a decent Community and what is going to happen to that with all this influx of the drugs and the booze. It is pertinent to this story that the gas drilling boom is bringing big changes to alot of local Communities."

To say that they are outraged at the things and changes happening in their area sort of is saying " oh why don't we just blame the industry bringing in new people is the cause of this. If the industry didn't bring in the new people to work here then maybe Shawn would still be alive."

To say that is more to the story than what meets the eye. Is like saying " There is more to the story than what we are saying."

To say that Gas drilling is bring in Unsavory Characters to the communities is sort of saying. " that everyone that comes looking for a job in the drilling industry is bad and unsavory.. Forget about all of the husbands and wives who need jobs to support their family. You know that there are hardly any jobs around, So people look towards the drilling. We need money. We need to support our families. Why not. " My husband works on the rigs and he is not a bad guy. He wouldn't hurt anyone. I know alot of people who work on the rigs actually" And why is that only the rigs are bring in new people that are unsavory. What about Flat Landers they buy property and move up here to hunt. Illegal Mexicans come up here to work on farms. What about them? Are any of them Unsavory? What about this.. Where did you family originate from? you can't all be originally from Potter or Tioga county? My family came from Ireland. Does that make me unsavory? The only thing you think is unsavory about it is that the oil and gas industries are bringing more people into are area making it prosper. Yes I know potter county and Tioga county is beautiful and its suppose to be untouched. But everyone is afraid of a little change if you ask me. Thats what everyones problem is with the gas and oil industries."

To say We have a decent Community and what is going to happen to that with all this influx of the drugs and the booze. " Have you seen the hours that these men work? I only see my husband 3 1/2 hours a day because of where he works Outside of Williamsport. He travels 2 and half hrs to work everyday. He works 12 days on 4 days off. He works night So he leaves our house at 6:45 gets home at 8 a.m. Then he sleeps until 3. Then he starts his day all over again. I hardly see him. On his days off he just wants to relax and do normal things and be around his family. Just like any of the other guys I know that work on the rigs. They aren't thinking about going out drinking and doing drugs. Some guys who don't have a family. Yes maybe they want to go to the bars and drink a little on their days off. Not drugs the do tests for those things now all the time on the rigs you have to with all the equipment you are using. It would not only be dangerous for you but for all the other people around you if you did drugs. And besides Those things were probably happening in your community before these new people came in. well wait not probably there is. You just are looking right through it. You know your town isn't perfect. Mine isn't lord knows. "

To say It is pertinent to this story that the gas drilling boom is bringing big changes to alot of local Communities. Yes that is true It is bringing changes. Are alot of the people around he afraid of the changes? Is that why alot of people around our areas are being harsh towards the new oil and gas industries? I believe thats all true. As I said before Potter county and Tioga county are said to be untouched, beautiful and so forth. Well it still can be. And it still is. These oil and industry is bring new jobs for the people in our community would you rather see people out on the streets because they can't pay their mortgage. Would you like to see pregnant mothers, Little children, and babies on the street corners begging for some loose change for food, Because they can't support their children? Would you like to see those people in hardly any clothing during winter because they can't afford it? I wouldn't. I am glad my husband works for the drilling rig that just means that its one more paycheck to live off of. Its one more month we can live in our home and not have to worry about where we are going to get our next meal. Let me just say that before he got that job in the rigs. We did worry about that everyday. These new jobs are bringing money to people that need it and will work for it. They are doing the jobs that nobody else will do. What do you think about that?

Even though I just ramble on and on about what was said in this video. This video was put up here to talk about a man that was murdered even though it did talk about the gas and oil industry it is sad that this man was killed and that he G/f and he g/f's daughter and family have to go through this. Its sad to have to be them and think about how the day before Shawn was there and then the next he was taken in a flash. Yes it is sad. and I feel bad for these people. But everyone needs to understand that yes a man was murdered! They also need to understand that it was not about new people coming to the area, or about the Industry. If industry didn't take place we would still be back in the little house and the prairie times. Could you all live without your T.v. Without a gas heater, Without your computer without the little everyday joys. Think about it.

"To the family Of Shawn.. I am really sorry for what has happened. You are all in my thoughts."

ashleprince: I am with you 100% on everything you said..

My husband works on the RIGS and we are fortunate enough that he works 14 days on and 14 days off. Oh his 14 on he stays at a man camp and I and our children talk to him maybe 10-15 mins a day. All the guys he works with are family men I know the whole crew and they wouldnt hurt a soul... They dont get off work and go to the bar either.

People hate change, I say change is good its bringing jobs to this area and then someone will say that its also bringing its own employees so it doesnt benefit us...

Well from our personal experience when my husband started working on his first rig a while ago when it wasnt a big thing but new here, he was on a crew of people we knew. People I grew up with, went to school with or just knew because everyone knows everyone.

Out of those 2 crews that he worked with there are only two local people left my husband being one of them. Workers from this area (not all just some) would show up to work intoxicated or worse, or not show up at all.

Actions such as this has now resulted in routine and suprise testing as well as Ive heard some rigs give employees a breatalizer before beginning the work day. So after so long of going through that this company yes brought in thier own employees that had been part of the company for years.

Now I dont know how it has happened on all rigs and my husband is no longer with that particular company but thats what happened on his first rig.

Like I said before My heart truly goes out to the family and I am very sorry they have to face this terrible incident.

ashleprince I agree with you that it's not anyones fault besides the man that did it. But when you say that they get drug tested all of the time, so they don't do drugs, I don't believe it for a minute. There's ways around those test. Yes there's been drugs around here for awhile and everyone that does them are at fault, but these new guys around here aren't innocent either and they are bringing them in with them too.

I would NOT trust Monica Pierce either..... a woman who murdered someone herself should not be able to talk bad about another who killed someone i'm not saying what happened to this man was right it was not and I am very sorry for the families loss but MONICA did you EVER show remorse for killing my someones family member!?
