What is someone doing on the steps of the courthouse at midnight to start with. Where were the police before it happened? Too much hanging out on the streets of this town. Pray for the persons family, they are the ones being hurt by this.

who is to say thats not just where they collapsed. one officer can not be everywhere at every second of the night. Also, coudersport pd is a part time police department. they do not have any officers out at night, it is up to the state police during thoes hours. learn the facts before placing blame.

what are our kids suppose to do,, there is nothing in this town for our youth,, when i grew up we had game-rooms, and rollerskating rinks.. people sit around and complain about our youth today just hanging out on the streets, but thats all they do is complain about it. if people were really worried about it,, they would band together and create something for them

Where were the police before this happened?! What!?

Yeah, I miss the days when our Officers could use their future seeing skills and stop all crime before it happens......

maybe kids should be home at night instead of on the streets looking for trouble

When I was young we didn't have all the electronics and things the kids have now. We made our fun, played hide & seek, cowboys and indians etc. We didn't expect our parents or the town to provide our activities and entertainment for us and we were not allowed to hang around the streets causing trouble. You stayed in your own neighborhood. And we didn't get ambulance calls for one of us with an overdose. I am so sick of hearing, "What are the kids supposed to do their isn't anything for them to do"....so they are supposed to do drugs because of that? Let them use their imaginations like we did, if all their electronic junk isn't enough to keep them busy.
The police don't do their job of keeping kids off the streets, local or state. No one expects them to know an overdose is coming on the courthouse steps in the middle of our town at midnight but as they ride around they could send the kids home that our hanging around doing who knows what. Parents, it's not your job to build entertainment centers for your kids, but it IS your job to know where they are and to teach them right from wrong.

What the heck are kids doing out after midnight on Thursday, anyways? Didn't they have to get up and go to work on Friday? Oh, hold on, I think I just answered my own question.

I started working at Erways when I was 12. I lied to Dana and told him I was 13 and I've had a job ever since. Probably has something to do with why I am semi-retired at 40 also.

Get a job kids!!!

10:50 you are so right.

where does all this "kid" stuff come from? all the post says is that it was a PERSON.

Stop being simple minded, for your own sake! We don't know the age of the person, we don't know where Officers were at the time, we don't know if they have electronic games or just got done playing hide and seek......

it's Christmas nibbers and all knowledgeable ones. Give it a Christmas Eve rest!

Alot of people are complaining about how there is nothing to do in Coudersport. But when one Young man by the name of Holden Ottolini makes a great choice to put up an Ice-skating rink for kids so they have something to do. Parents don't want their kids to go near it and they complain about how there is nothing to do in this town and they complain about who is going to pay for my son/daughters broken leg. Okay. Which is better a broken leg or an overdose with death?

wow where did it say she was a kid? Where did it say she didn't have a job? lol Wow must be insider info I'm out of the loop.

10:50 - right on!!! Kids today just run loose, nobody knows where they are or what they're doing. All their electronic toys are giving them brain freeze, they are not into playing board games, bike riding, reading, etc - all the things that kids did to amuse themselves years ago - and without getting into or causing trouble. Drugs and alcohol were around years ago too but there weren't as many problems as there are today.
And exactly where and what are the parents doing??? Don't they care where these kids are??

IT IS A PARENT THING! Pay attention to your kids, teach them right from wrong. Monitor their computer use. Know who they are friends with ~just simply care and be there for them & YES USE DISCIPLINE!

Where in the blurb did it say it was a kid?

"Also, coudersport pd is a part time police department. they do not have any officers out at night"

Not sure what Coudersport you live in, but they have officers out at night...trust me.

There are many good points in these comments..

BUT, do we know it was an unguided youth?

I agree that more and more of today's youth has little to no guidance from parents, school are limited on how they can correct them. They are free to do as they please but the law basically says no one can tell them what to do, no one can punish them....

Its sad....

the officers are on call at night. meaning they get woken up to deal with things while they are happening. they arent "driving around" or patrolling at night. they arent paid for that. they are out at night, but only when called.

I grew up in Coudy. Before the skating rink days. We had ice skating at the courthouse square and dances at the Community Building which is now the library. We hung out at the square. Sat on the rock. Walked the streets, yes after midnght. And no, I never used drugs. I think I missed the part of the blurb that said it was a "youth" that had overdosed. Can someone with :facts" update us please....

Maybe it was a gas worker spending his ill-gotten fortune.

Seriously, we should be praying for this person. It is our responsibility as his life and our finacial well being is at stake. Should this person continue down the wrong path, we will paying for this in the future be it prison, welfare or drug rehab expenses.

just because we are a small town does not mean we don't have big city problems. crawl out from under your rock and look around you if you don't believe me.

I am sorry for whomever was feeling this down onthe holidays and hope them well. For everyone who is quick to judge what makes you so much better that you have the right to judge people or parenting skills or anything else. Do you know this person or just by a article in the paper? Its all really sad. The world as a whole is not the same as it was and never will be.
