Roulette Township To Offer Zero- Sort Recycling To Residents

“Make it your New Year’s Resolution to recycle”

The Roulette Township Supervisors have signed a contract with Casella Waste Systems for a community recycling program for Roulette Township Residents.

Casella will provide a dumpster to be placed at the Township Building at a cost to the township of $75.00 per month.

There is NO SORTING REQUIRED.

This will be at no cost to any individual resident of Roulette Township.

The Supervisors feel that the limited cost to the township will be greatly offset by helping to not only reduce the cost of all of the residents of Roulette for garbage removal, but also help to keep the landfills from filling up needlessly and help the environment.

This project is just the beginning of what we hope will be a multiple stage approach to help the area go GREEN.

This is a ZERO-SORT recycling system that accepts pretty much anything recyclable.

Recyclables can be brought to the Township Office / Library 7 days a week between the hours of 1PM and 6PM. It must be brought in a reusable container that the customer can take back with them, an open cardboard box, that can be reused or recycled, or in a clear, see through bag.

To reduce the potential for “garbage” being dropped off, anyone that wishes to utilize this program must come to the township office or the Library for assistance in the drop off.

The Experience Works program will assist with the staffing to minimize the cost to the township.

Roulette Township Secretary Jonathan Huff said, "People may call the township office at 814-544-7549 during normal business hours if the have any questions."

The recycling program will begin on January 3, 2011.

Why can't the people of Roulette have bins at home like the people in Port do? I think the bins are what really encourage people to recycle. It is right there and so easy that you just do it without thinking about it. Making people haul the stuff to a central point in town isn't going to create as much participation as providing a bin at home would. If all I had was a car instead of a truck I wouldn't want to fill it with trash and haul it around. I mean face it people are lazy, don't have the means, or just don't have time to screw with hauling all the junk down to a collection point. This feels like a second rate solution instead of a winning one like the neighboring community has.

So I am wondering why Coudersport is not doing this also ?

I wish Shinglehouse would do something like this...would definately cut down on garbage and would help the environment.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone had something negative to say about this. Didn't take too long!!

I, live in Roulette, and I personally think this is awesome. Whether we have to haul to it to a central location or whatever, it will def cut down on the amount of garbage we have. Trust me, when it costs $3.75 a bag to get rid of garbage, you will gladly haul it the mile or 2 that you live to get rid of it to save the money!

I know even without the bins right here, I made plans as soon as I seen this to go purchase an extra garbage bin just to take the recycle stuff over to the township building.

THANK YOU ROULETTE FOR HELPING MAKE THE WORLD A LIL BETTER!

Putting bins at each and every home would require signing a contract with Casella making them the ONLY company that would be permitted to pick up trash in Roulette like Port Allegany did. This would not only eliminate the possibility for people to have a choice in who hauls their trash, and if they want to recycle or not, it would also be a burden on those that haul their own trash to the dump to save money as EVERYONE would pay a bill or have it added to their tax bill to cover the cost. Does this really sound like the award winning service that we want here. Not me as I am one of the ones that haul it to the transfer station myself to save a dollar. I will however use the new service that is being provided as it will mean that I have to haul less to the dump myself.

Coudersport TRIED a recycling program some years back. Notice the word "TRIED". It takes more then just one or two people to make a program work.

As for the comments about providing containers (which Coudy did) and curbside pickup, there is an additional expense for this.

I for one am thrilled with this. Especially the fact it is no sort. I hate burning papers but do since they fill up the garbage so fast. I already recycle cans and glass but this will be so much more convenient than where I have been taking them. I would say, the people who wont use this mostly will be the ones who are too lazy to rinse and separate to begin with. Thank you for bringing this service to us.

Thank you for the opportunity to take our recycling to a center here in Roulette. Please remember this, any food containers such as milk cartons, beverage cans. canned goods, etc. must be rinsed out as food items are not accepted.
