7th Street Bridge Is History

The 7th Street bridge in Coudersport hangs from a 250 ton crane over the Allegheny River on Friday.

Crews from L. C. Whitford Co. have been preparing for the last week to have the bridge stabilized for Fridays move. L.C.Whitford Superintendant, Dick Fanton, said his crew did a fantastic job bracing, welding and rigging on the bridge and because of their professional team effort the bridge was lifted, set on dollies, and moved to C.A.R.P. Park without incident.

Fanton said work will continue on drainage on both sides of the channel and his crew will begin work on the new 7th Street bridge in the near future.

Coudersport Borough Manager Marlin Moore and several council members were on hand to watch the progress on the project that he began the paperwork on over 25 years ago

Penn Dot inspectors and Engineers watch as the 7th street bridge is moved to the east side of 7th street to be placed on dollies.

A welder welds legs on the bridge so it can slide like skis on the road and the rear will set on dollies to allow the bridge to turn. An excavator is hooked to the front to drag the bridge to C.A.R.P.

Two excavators were used to move the bridge to C.A.R.P.
