The Austin Centennial Committee

The Austin Centennial Committee

The Austin Centennial Committee will hold its next planning meeting on Wednesday, January 19 at 7 pm at the Austin Fire Hall. The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in helping to plan for the Austin Flood Centennial event, scheduled for September 30 - October 2, 2011, is encourged to attend.

The committee is especially interested in ideas that would help recreate a "living history experience" of life in Potter County in 1911 through food, fun and festivities. Anything from costumes to cuisine, and recreational opportunities to children's activities will be discussed.

If you have additional ideas or know of people who can help us achieve an authentic 1911 experience at the event, please make a special effort to attend this meeting. Show your Potter County pride by joining the efforts to recognize and remember the 1911 Austin Flood, a most important piece of Potter County's rich history. For more information on the Austin Flood Centennial, visit austin2011.com.

As a desendent of a 1911 flood surviver, and proud of it, I think this is a great event to be planned.
