WILLIAMSPORT - The Lycoming County SPCA has received a number of leads - and one possible identification - on the dog that was found Thursday gruesomely killed, with a cinder block tied to a rope around its neck and muzzle, and thrown off a bridge into the Susquehanna River.

Meanwhile, an Avis business has put up a reward of over $2,000 for the arrest and prosecution of the person or persons responsible for the death of the female, white German shepherd mix.

Thomas Fidler, humane society police officer at the Lycoming County SPCA, said his agency received about 40 tips on Friday, though he would not give specific details of the tips for concern it would hinder the investigation.

He said one family from Cogan Station has come forward and has tentatively identified the dog, though the SPCA is still asking the public to come forward if they believe the dog may have been their's. More...

Wow ... this really pisses me off... how could someone do that? Sick!

Anonymous said...

I agree! There is something wrong with someone who could do this.

This sickens me and what makes me even more mad is this comment: "Fidler noted the person or persons responsible could be looking at prison time for their actions, but that would only come after a lengthy investigation into the reason behind it and whether the person has a criminal record"

It shouldn't matter if they have a criminal record! They killed this dog in a horrible and heartless way and the only way the person will be punished jail time is if they have done previous crime? Bullcrap! Its like getting a slap on the wrist!!! The law system needs to make a few adjustments.

This is very sick and so sad. How anyone could do this to a helpless dog that is your best friend is beyond me. I agree someone that could do this is really sick in the mind and who knows what other acts this person or persons could do. I do not think that this person or persons responsible for this deserves jail time because they have a warm cell and 3 meals a day, they deserve the same painfull death that this poor dog went through. I really hope they find who is responsible for this. My heart aches for this dog.

If the previous owners came forward and identfied the dog of it being theirs, I dont understand why and if they had handed it over to the SPCA, why they can't go back to their records *the SPCA'S* and find out who owned the dog! Was the dog lost, and someone did this after snatching it, OR was the dog in care of the SPCA and adopted out to another family? Im reading the article as......the dog once belonged to 1 family, given to someone else by an SPCA or privately why would it be so hard to find out who the previous owner was??? It is sad that someone would be this guttless to do a thing like this!

I am having a hard time understanding this story...HOW can you NOT recognize your own dog...come on people...i know every inch of my dog....would recognize hime anywhere.....what the heck is going on here......let's get these sick people who did this to this beautiful dog and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law...I hope they do jail time...they deserve it.......it just made me sick to read about this.....it infuriates me to think people can do this crap to innocent animals who only want our love and affection.....

IF caught, this person(s) will serve more time in jail then if he/she had done the same thing to a baby or kid. NOW THAT IS PATHETIC!!!

to 10:22 are you really that stupid ?

Tommy J said...

Unfortunately 10:22 may not be "stupid". Prime example, Michael Vick serving almost 2 years in a federal prison versus Donte Stallworth serving 30 days in jail. Stallworth killed a woman while driving under the influence and received a lighter sentence than Michael Vick who was guilty of fighting and killing dogs. I agree that animal killers should be harshly punished but our justice system is severely out of whack when determining punishments sometimes.

it is very sad. But look at all the animals here in port that are being neglegted left outside to fend for themselfs or at a abondoned house they are left outside in the cold poor pugs thats just wrong why get an animal if you cant give it the love or affection it needs there like children breaks my heart wish i had the funds to do something about it...

As far as I am concerned and animal's life is just as precious as a childs. I love my dogs and I am sure come judgement day they will get theirs.

The passing of a dog and the passing of a child are in no way shape or form the same.

Becareful with your words 12:50!

Animals are precious as is a child. To say that kind of loss should or could be compared is thoughtless and with out compassion.

Unless you've lost both and can say that the pain is just the same....

There is a special place reserved in Hell for a person who would do something like this. Whoever he is, I hope he sees the same kind of treatment one day.
