Pennsylvania Farm Show Starts Tomorrow

Pennsylvania State Farm Show schedule highlights for 2011

The 95th Pennsylvania State Farm Show opens Saturday and runs through Jan. 15 at the Farm Show Complex, North Cameron and Maclay streets, Harrisburg. Admission is free, and parking is $10 per vehicle, which includes shuttle bus service.

The show combines livestock and commercial exhibits, competitions, entertainment and business deals. (Times for the events are subject to change.

Here are highlights:

Saturday, Jan. 8

  • 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Daily attractions
  • 9 a.m., Judging: Live Poultry (East Building)
  • 10 a.m., Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest (Main Floor)
  • 10 a.m., Pennsylvania High School Rodeo Association Championship Rodeo (Large Arena)
  • 10:30 a.m., State Police Mounted Drill Team (Large Arena)
  • 12:30 p.m., Cookie and Brownie Contest (Main Floor)
  • 2 p.m., Wine Competition Awards (Main Floor)
  • 2:30 p.m., Chocolate Cake Contest (Main Floor)
  • 3 p.m., Poultry Best of Show, (East Building)
  • 4 p.m., Cumberland County 4-H Club Drill Team (Large Arena)
  • 5 p.m., Farm Show Fashions With a Flair (Main Floor)

Sunday, Jan. 9

  • 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Daily attractions
  • 10 a.m., Non-Denominational Worship Service (Banquet Hall)
  • 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Draft Horse Hitched Competition, 6 Horse Hitch and Other Team Classes (Large Arena)
  • 1 p.m., Angel Food Cake Contest (Main Floor)
  • 3:30 p.m., Glen Shelton, country western singer, and Farm Show’s “Got Talent” (Small Arena)
  • 4 p.m., Pineapple Upside Down Cake Contest (Main Floor)
  • 5 p.m., Grand Champion Steer (Equine Arena)
  • 6 p.m., Dog Demonstration “Farm to Fun” (Equine Area)
