Residents of Galeton, Pennsylvania have invited leading environmental law firm to hear residents' concerns

Weitz & Luxenberg Addresses Natural Gas Drilling Concerns at Information Meeting January 20

Residents of Galeton, Pennsylvania have invited leading environmental law firm to hear residents' concerns

NEW YORK, Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York based law firm, Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. (www.weitzlux.com), has been invited by a number of Galeton, Pennsylvania residents to address the adverse effects of unconventional natural gas drilling in their community.

The firm will host an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the Galeton Area School located at 25 Bridge Street in Galeton, Pennsylvania to listen to the concerns of the community, share information and discuss legal options.

Weitz & Luxenberg continues to be concerned by the reports it receives from residents in many states, including Pennsylvania, about air and water pollution, property damage, and the industrialization of their communities.

Julia LeMense, an environmental attorney with Weitz & Luxenberg who will be in attendance at the meeting said, "Our clients and other residents in Potter and Tioga Counties are troubled by what they are experiencing; they are justifiably concerned about the safety of their air, water and the overall health of their community." While the meeting will have an informational component, it is intended to create a public and open forum for residents to voice their concerns.

Weitz & Luxenberg represents clients in a number of communities in Pennsylvania and West Virginia who have methane in their drinking water wells at unsafe levels. The firm has conducted preliminary investigations at several locations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia to identify the impacts of unconventional natural gas drilling, hydraulic fracturing and gas storage on air and water.

About Weitz & Luxenberg P.C.

Weitz & Luxenberg, founded in 1986, is one of the leading plaintiffs' litigation law firms in America and has played leading roles in national and local litigations involving mesothelioma and asbestos-related lung cancer, The firm represents hundreds of Gulf coast residents affected by the BP oil spill and has a leadership role on the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the BP litigation.

A forerunner in the legal fight against polluters, Weitz & Luxenberg, which often works with noted environmental advocate Erin Brockovich, has represented clients harmed by groundwater pollution in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, Fennville, Michigan and Paw Paw, Michigan, harmed by industrial de-greasers PCE/TCE in groundwater and indoor air, harmed by the gasoline additive MTBE in water supply wells, affected by hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and injured by PERC/PCE in coal float-sink test operations.

The firm also represents thousands of Americans with regard to injuries caused by defective medicines and medical devices such as DePuy ASR replacement hips, Fosamax, shoulder pain pumps, Yaz birth control, Zimmer Durom Hip implants, transvaginal mesh (TVT mesh) and Hydroxycut products. The firm maintains active general negligence and medical malpractice divisions.

This is a good thing... should be a packed house for them.. If it isn't everyone must be ok with what's happening. So if your a avid comment maker on the gas situation the trip to Galeton might be something you would like to attend..

The sad truth is when you get the lawyers involved, the ONLY ones that win are the lawyers.

Who's next? Edgar Snyder? Erin Brockovich? Cellino & Barnes? Just be sure to deaden all of the sirens driving by the meeting hall or you'll lose your speakers.
Got to stop typing now, as my shoulder is sore and my neck aches. It's all Dell's fault!

Ahhh the vultures arrive....

Nothing more than an on site infomercial seminar to gather clients.

Present the problem in it's worst possible light and then present the solution....Them.

An age old advertising tactic.

@1:59 pm...

If you honestly believe that then you owe it to your community to attend and to challenge this group on any points you disagree with.

Aside from that, they were invited by the people of Galeton. You should respect that invitation from the community.

The "people" of Galeton? Hmmmmmmmm

Do you have a problem with the people of Galeton 3:21 PM? Just because they may not subscribe to your worldview that makes them "not" the people of Galeton?

Listen carefully, pollution from volatile hydrocarbons (which has been confirmed in Galeton's air samples) is very serious. They cause kidney and liver damage, brain lesions and cancers. You need to seriously re-assess your disdain and consider attending the meeting. The people of Galeton are very correct to be concerned.

Looks like some pro-marcellus folks are trying to put some doubts in folks minds in these comments.

ULTRA RESOURCES INC
has been cited for numerous health and safety
violations in
West Branch twp close to Galeton.
Including:Improperly lined pits,
lack pollution containing measures for polluting substances,
no E&S plan available on site,
Failure to maintain 2' freeboard in an impoundment and MANY more.

The community's health and safety has been put at risk ,
partly because of inadequate oversight, partly because the gas industry has not using the best management practices.

What Potter County has experienced so far is
just the tip of the iceberg compared to what the gas industry has planned for Potter.

I hope some of our Township and County officials
join us at this Informational meeting.
Is'nt this Susan Kefover's neck of the woods?

How can you call it an informational meeting?
The credibility of the presenters is pretty shaky at best. What motivates these ambulance chasers to come here? The public interest? No. Revitalization of the region's economy? No, but probably an injection into their own economy. Our environment? Well, they might use that as their banner but what are their credentials, what are their motives and why would the people organizing this not schedule speakers who have better qualifications and scientific validity? I sure hope this private business is paying a suitable rental fee to use the public building for this private sales pitch.
