First Charles Cole Joins Hamot, Now Hamot Joins UPMC

Changing Face Of Health Care In Region
UPMC Hamot is Official

Erie, PA-UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) and Hamot Health Foundation are happy to announce that today marks the official establishment of UPMC Hamot.

Our newly formed organization will introduce more advanced and enhanced medical services and residencies, clinical expertise, research opportunities and sophisticated technology to the patients and the communities throughout Erie and the tri-state region.

Through significant investments to improve and enhance UPMC Hamot facilities and services, UPMC Hamot will serve as a full-service, acute-care tertiary hospital and as UPMC's sole regional referral center and tertiary hub for years to come.

UPMC Hamot will maintain specialty clinical services for at least 20 years, including level two trauma, cardiac, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopaedics, oncology, plastic surgery, women's and children's health and other mutually agreed upon services.

A newly formed UPMC Hamot Board will now oversee the integration for UPMC Hamot and the strategic direction for the organization. The Board carries an impressive body of collective experience and comprises all members of the previous Hamot Health Foundation Board of Trustees and a list of distinguished representatives from UPMC.

According to the chair of the UPMC Hamot Board, Scott Kern, today Hamot has officially joined a superior healthcare system, and now can offer Erie and northwestern Pennsylvania, western New York and eastern Ohio greater access to medical services, technology and research. "Going forward, UPMC Hamot will uphold innovation and values of superior-quality patient care and a vision of growth for Erie and western Pennsylvania."

"I am very proud that UPMC, an $8 billion global health enterprise and a 20-hospital system, recognizes Hamot as a valuable partner," said UPMC Hamot CEO John Malone.

“UPMC is looking forward to a long and successful partnership with Hamot,” added Elizabeth B. Concordia, UPMC executive vice president and president, Hospital and Community Services Division. “This affiliation not only strengthens UPMC Hamot as the premier provider of health care throughout the region, but it further enhances UPMC’s commitment to serve western Pennsylvania.”

Following an extensive three-year process, UPMC Hamot was made official at a closing today.

Next week, UPMC executives will be onsite and in conjunction with UPMC Hamot leaders will meet with physicians and employees to discuss the affiliation of these two world-class institutions. Members of the media also will be invited next week to learn more about the new organization, its many clinical benefits and its new brand. More details are forthcoming.
