At 11:10 am on Friday, Port Allegany EMS is responding to Route 6 near the Seneca Inn East of Port Allegany where a man has been struck by a piece of ice that came off another vehicle and went through the windshield of his pickup truck, striking him in the head.

A similar thread posted last winter. It is federal law for CDL drivers to remove the ice from their rigs prior to hitting the road. This is the very reason why that law exists. Hopefully the SUPERTRUCKER that chimed in last winter will keep his yap shut now.

For your information, the law does not only or specifically apply to commercial motor vehicles. It isn't a federal law either. The legislation being chapter 3720 in the pa vehicle code which clearly states "a moving vehicle".

If your little smart car has a chunk of ice on it and it flies off and injures someone you are subject to the same fine that a semi truck driver would face for the same violation.

So 4:48, your subject to the same laws as everyone else.

Furthermore as of august 1st. 2009, there were no federal regulations mandating the removal of ice and snow from a vehicle prior to transit.

Supertrucker didn't violate and federal laws by driving a semi covered in snow, he broke the same law that you did in your snow covered car.

I wish people would do their homework before posting...

One thing that I am really getting sick of seeing in the morning is parents driving their kids to school and teens driving their vehicles to school, past dozens of students walking, with just a small little "peek hole" scrapped in the windshield! It is a disaster waiting to happen! I know it is cold but start your car and take the time to make sure you scrape the ice/snow off so you can see what is around you. It may just save a life!
