Thompson Calls For Comprehensive Energy Plan After President's Remarks at Penn State University

Thompson Calls For Comprehensive Energy Plan After President's Remarks at Penn State University

Washington, D.C. – Today, President Obama traveled to the 5th District of Pennsylvania to deliver remarks on America’s energy policy and the work being done at Penn State University through the Energy Innovation Hub. After greeting the President on the tarmac at the University Park Airport and attending his remarks, Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) issued the following statement:

“It was an honor to have President Obama visit the Commonwealth to highlight Pennsylvania’s Energy Innovation Hub and the tremendous research being done at Penn State University on energy efficiency. Unfortunately, without a comprehensive plan that also includes making better use of existing resources and expanding our domestic production, situations like that in Egypt will continue to underscore the need to cease America’s reliance on foreign energy. Our prosperity as a nation is dependent upon access to sustainable, low-cost energy, and l will continue to push for a comprehensive energy plan that meets these demands, promotes American energy, and builds a foundation for long-term economic growth and security.”

Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson

Thompson currently serves on the House Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Education & Workforce Committees. In addition to these committee assignments, Thompson was recently appointed Chairman of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy & Forestry, with jurisdiction over soil, water, and resource conservation, energy and bio-based energy production, rural electrification and forestry

And wonderblunder GT's vision is fossil fuel based. If we would have adopted the energy policies that President Carter advocated over 30 yrs. ago, we would be total energy independent by now but instead, we continue to bow down to the Oil and Gas Industry lobbyists and have failed to wean ourselves of that dependence.

Before I begin, two points of full disclosure: 1.) I'm a dirty stinking liberal. 2.) I only know this blog, the great people of north central PA and its beautiful landscape because I'm working the Marcellus Shale.

GT Thompson, while I vehemently disagree with many of his political positions, seems to come across as a smart guy who is seriously interested in advocating for his voting constituency. Good on him! That being acknowledged, Rep. Thompson said this: "Unfortunately, without a comprehensive plan that also includes making better use of existing resources and expanding our domestic production, situations like that in Egypt will continue to underscore the need to cease America’s reliance on foreign energy."

I so wish a Congressman who represents a district that is experiencing one of the most active energy plays in the world could demonstrate that he understands how the global energy/petroleum markets actually work.

You only know this blog, the great people of northern central PA and its beautiful landscape because I'm working the Marcellus Shale. So it's safe to say you're not from here and will probably go back to where you come from after you make a buck off of us and destroy our beautiful landscape.

Natural gas is smoke and mirrors. There's nothing "natural" about it!

A popular belief is that the US imports most of its oil from the middle east.

Yes we can !yes we can !This was just another sales pitch by a traveling salesman!

I would agree that Thompson is a traveling salesman. Ever hear the saying, "follow the money?" Check out the campaign contributions to Mr. Regular Guy, Thompson. The health care megabusiness (not the care itself, which is a WORTHY cause that doesn't have the big bucks to donate to him) and big energy. His declarations and votes will always deliver on the investments those two goliaths have made in him.

So is Mr. Thompson's fan in favor of continuing to use our tax dollars to SUBSIDIZE the oil and gas industry despite record profits?? Did he miss that part of of the president's comprehensive plan that would stop those subsidies and instead, use the money to INVEST (different from throwing tax dollars away with no hope of a return) in renewable energy that builds a foundation for reducing the need for fossil fuels and encourages & rewards new ideas. What have the oil and gas companies given us for our tax dollars lately?

BTW-with the exception of the initial drilling contractors, most of the Marcellus Shale employees brought into this area are moving here with their families and will be putting their earnings into the local economy. Please wake up and stop believing those who would tell you what to think and limit your options for the future. Learn more, be informed. Promote solutions. Sad to see so much time and energy being wasted on spin, scare tactics and cutting down instead of building up any effort to make our county and our country better.

I meant that obama is the traveling salesman still selling himself ! His investing just means more wastefull reckless spending ! Cash for clunkers cost 25000 per car ! Lets not even get into all the jobs that never came about ! The list of waste is endless!

Replace all of them! You "had" a chance with Thompson - you will "have" a chance with Oboma! The name of the game is MONEY. I think that's why some of our elected officials got into the game. We pay salaries to elected officials who have the balls to run their business out of their County office. Then, throw in a couple of attorneys - and what do you have????? I can name that tune in 1 note!
