Barry D. Brown Announces Candidacy For District Judge In Cameron County

SEEKS ELECTION

Barry D. Brown would like to announce his candidacy for the office of Magisterial District Judge; for Magisterial District 59-3-01, which includes the whole of Cameron County.

Barry is the son of Alvin H. and Marilyn Brown and is proud to be a lifelong resident of Cameron County. He resides in Emporium with his wife Michele, son Jacob, and daughter Katie. He is a Gulf War veteran (US Navy), a member of the Cameron County Memorial Detail, one of Bert Metz’s last Eagle Scouts, and has been involved in multiple youth sports programs, including youth baseball and basketball.

Brown has cross-filed as a candidate on both the Republican and Democratic ballots for the May 17th primary election.

Barry has received his state certification for the position of Magisterial District Judge (MDJ) in June of 2010 through the Pennsylvania Minor Judiciary Education Board. This certification course requires a proficiency in all of the following: Criminal Law, Traffic Law, Civil Law (Including Landlord-Tenant, Contract Law, and Trespass Law), Search and Seizure, Controlled Substance Laws, Laws of Evidence, the PA Constitution (as it applies to the legal system), Bail procedures, along with Courtroom procedures and PA Rules of Court.

In addition to the certification course, Barry has attended MDJ continuing education classes. These covered: PA Motor Vehicle Code Updates, Civil Law updates, PA Game Code changes, PA Dog Code, Oversized Vehicles and Permitting, Sales Tax Collection and Compliance, MDJ Office Audit, Criminal Law Updates, Insurance Fraud, Truancy Law, Updates on Evidentiary Laws and Search Warrants, and Procedural Fairness in the Courts. Furthermore Brown has been spending hours of his personal time in court, to gain a greater understanding of the role of a MDJ.

Brown also possesses the following criteria which are very important to the position of MDJ; a good understanding of his community and its citizens, honesty, integrity, morals, family values, and common sense. Also, being an avid sportsman has given Barry further insight and personal experience with the game laws, and how they are to be applied properly. Barry will continue to follow the example set by Cameron County’s current MDJ.
