Betty Gross, 72, of Germania, PA

Betty Gross, 72, of Germania, PA, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at Soldiers & Sailors Hospital, Wellsboro, PA.

Born December 18, 1938, in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of the late Laurence and Evelyn (Cornelius) Hyde. On December 24, 1971, in Galeton, she married Walter F. Gross, who survives.

Betty had been a secretary for the North Penn Gas Company, a bookkeeper at Germania Well Drilling, and a secretary at the Galeton Area School District retiring in 2002. In retirement, she was the secretary for West Branch Township and also the secretary for the Germania Cemetery.

She was a supporter of many civic organizations and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Walt, are three sons, Larry (Denise) Smith, Galeton, Richard (Holly) Smith, Galeton, and Tracy (Jennifer) Gross, Williamsport, PA; eight grandchildren, Brent, McKenzie, Erick, Logan, Mitchell, Connor, Spencer, and Preston; two brothers, Dennis (Barbara) Hyde, Priest Lake, ID and Jerry (Sheila) Hyde, Silver Creek, NY; two sisters, Shirley Mertsock, Shinglehouse, PA and Carolyn (James) Ellison, Howey in the Hills, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 1:00pm with the Rev. Karl W. O. Runser, III officiating. Interment will be made in the Germania Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Galeton Area School District Scholarship Fund.
