Gordon G. Newton, 87, formerly of Leonard Ave., Bradford, PA

Gordon G. Newton, 87, formerly of Leonard Ave., Bradford, passed away Saturday, February 26th, 2011 at Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born October 6, 1923, in Allegany, NY, a son of the late George and Mildred (Toennies) Newton.

On December 2, 1950 in St. Bernard Church he married Betty (McAlpine) Newton who passed away January 4, 1998.

He was a 1943 graduate of Allegany High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 27, 1943, he served in WW II in Europe he was honorably discharged in 1945.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was employed as a furnace operator at Corning Glass.

Surviving is a daughter, Cynthia (Daniel) Brooks of Dover, DE, two grandsons; Eric (Ann) Brooks of Warrenton VA, and Andrew (Karen) Brooks of Dover DE, four great grandchildren; Ian and Ianna Brooks of Dover, and Madeline and Riley Brooks of Warrenton VA, one brother Marvin (Arette) Newton of Mission TX, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Henry Newton.

Family will be receiving friends on Friday March 11, 2011 from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. South Ave. then at 1:00pm funeral and committal services will be held with Father Samuel B. Slocum officiating. Burial will be in St.Bonaventure Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Diabetes Association 1660 Duke St., Alexandria VA, 22314, or a charity of the donors choice.
