PITT-BRADFORD TO HOST INTERACTIVE DISCUSSION WITH
AWARD-WINNING CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE AUTHOR

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s education program will host a videoconference with award-winning children’s author Jane Yolen at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Room 162 of Swarts Hall.

Known as the “Hans Christian Andersen” of America and the Aesop of the 20th century, Yolen is an author and editor of more than 300 books, including folklore, fantasy, science fiction and children’s books. Her most popular titles include the “How Do Dinosaurs …” series, “Owl Moon” and “The Devil’s Arithmetic,” the story of a girl who is transported back to the Holocaust.

“Ms. Yolen will be discussing her books, especially ‘The Devil’s Arithmetic,’ her approach to writing and special thoughts for teachers. This is special event for everyone of all ages,” said Dr. Wayne Brinda, assistant professor of secondary education.

Yolen grew up in New York City and Connecticut, went to Smith College and sold her first story at age 22. Her books have won numerous awards.

The presentation is free and open to the public, but space is limited. To register, contact Jody Randolph at jar1@pitt.edu.
