RENOVO -After years of up-and-down negotiating, several abortive attempts, and much urging and effort on the part of local officials and businessmen, wireless services are now available in Renovo
The activation, announced Wednesday by state Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, will certainly lower the frustration of local residents in western Clinton County, many of whom saw the lack of service as a cutting abandonment by telecommunications firms, one that placed Renovo and its municipal neighbors at a disadvantage in the marketplace. Way to go hometown!!
How nice it would be if there was service in the Otto Eldred area now. There is no service between Bradford and Eldred. What a shame they can't put cell towers up.
There are so many dead zones in PA. This company could really make some money if they provide service to all these areas!
Sparse population equals NO profits for big telecomminications companies.
Welcome to the 21st century Renova/Renovo.
In this year of 2011, soon to be 2012, you would think it would be in ALL of this area. There are hundreds of camps & many tourists who are always here & searching for service. RIDICULOUS!!!!!
now austin needs to be done!
Renovo has around 4000+ people in the valley, which is more than Austin... so sorry Austin. I wonder which cell phone providers can use this tower, anyone out there know?
shucks with a tower there comes new business.. You get service people are going to buy phones.. each family will spend over a hundred dollars a month on a cell phone package from verizon.. This adds up! you have to realize the big picture is MONEY! IT MAKES THE WORLD GO AROUND!
The only damn reason Renovo is getting cell service is because of the Marcellus play traffic. Austin and Elderd won`t be far behind. Get your water tested !
Only one company can use the cell towers. They are not made to work with each type of cell comanies.
More than one company can use the tower(s). Thats what roaming and roaming agreements are all about.
Unfortunately, Renovo's service is Immix Wireless. Which is a GSM/GPRS provider(type of service). Other GSM providers include AT&T and TMobile, among others. Verizon is CDMA, and will NOT be able to roam on this service.
A CDMA provider is what SHOULD have been acquired for this area in my opinion, as Verizon is much much more popular in the area. A couple towers, strategically placed by Verizon or affiliates, could have connected the "dots" between Lock Haven and Coudersport. So instead of filling in the Verizon "dead zone", you have service for a smaller group of people on a less popular service. If you have a GSM device, youll be lucky to connect more than 5 miles in each direction.
