Robert W. Hunsinger, Sr., 89, of East Fork Road, Austin, PA

Robert W. Hunsinger, Sr., 89, of East Fork Road, Austin, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.

Born on March 10, 1922 in Sweden Valley, he was the son of Ernest and Ivy May Fischer Hunsinger. On September 25, 1944 in Austin he married Shirley M. Purdy, who died on December 15, 2002.

Mr. Hunsinger was a lifelong resident of the Austin area. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U. S. Army and had been stationed in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was formerly employed with Pierce Glass in Port Allegany. He attended the Austin Free Methodist Church, was an honorary member of the East Fork Sportsman’s Club, a lifetime member of the Austin Vets Club, and a member of Merrill’s Marauders.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Foster and Ivy Lantzy, both of Austin, Shirley (Donald) Yates of Clayton, NC, one son, Robert W. (Gladys) Hunsinger, Jr. of Austin, 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, Virginia Purdy, Ola Maxine Mancuso, and June Adaresta Betts, and two brothers, Milton Ernest “Buck” Hunsinger and Irvin Jennings Hunsinger.

Friends may call at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport, on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from Noon until 2pm at which time funeral services will be held with the Reverend Roger Laktash officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Austin. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions maybe made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
