Natural Gas Going Up Nearly 10% On Monday

National Fuel Gas to hike prices 9.9 percent

By JIM MARTIN, Erie Times-News
jim.martin@timesnews.com

National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp. has announced natural gas prices will rise 9.9 percent, effective Monday.

The utility, which serves more than 200,000 customers in western Pennsylvania, is required to pass along gas prices to consumers dollar-for-dollar. National Fuel had previously predicted that gas prices would rise 8.6 percent as of Aug. 1

The increase will boost the monthly bill of a typical residential customer -- one who uses 95,000 cubic feet per year -- from $84.20 to $92.51.

Natural gas prices are determined by supply and demand. Marcellus wells have created a glut on the market producing an excess supply of gas, so we can only conclude that the law of supply & demand has changed from the traditional meaning to one that is now defined as "The gas corporations demand more money and the users supply it." So much for all that stuff we learned in school.

see how much the price of your natural gas bill goes up if they start taxing the drilling that has been going on around here. they will only pass the cost on to the consumer! and to the first comment thank you for buying gas allowing me to collect my pay check while i ride around all day with my thumb in my ear! there is a good chance that your on welfare getting paid to do nothing atleast i have a job.

Drill like hell. Ship it all over sea. When our wells dry up, we'll buy it back from foreign countries for un-godly amounts of money.

we have enough gas in this country to make us self sufficient. Just give it time. I leased my gas rights out. who wouldn't? They got cash in hand, and I get rich! They contacted me years ago, I said..I dont live in Potter County..but they said I hold the mineral rights! I like to come up to Potter County to hunt, but I thought I would have my doe tag by now? Anybody else get their tag yet?

and what is the salary of the CEO? Supply and demand might work, but who needs it when you can buy the policies you want from D.C. and Harrisburg. Ironic that this increase corresponds with the Republicans eliminating LIHEAP, the aid for poor people who can't afford their heating costs. These people are shameless.

Correct me if I'm wrong but even with the price increase, which is done annually, people in this area are still paying less per hundred cubic feet of gas than people in New Jersey. Although the delivery charge for here is higher and that cost is set by the public utilities commision.

EVERYTHING you need to survive if controlled by the bovernment. Unless you can buy your way to the top, you are ment to be controlled. It's their idea to keep you as poor as humanly possible.

National Fuels CEO makes millions of dollars a year!

9:56 "The gas companies demand more money and the users supply it."
Another one comes to mind,"The local, state, and federal governing authorities demand more money and the users supply it".

gas here there every ware ... a couple wells here and couple there. did anyone think that it cost less ? rape the land and go back to texas or mexico ,, take your lease money and move on ...

The US could continue to survive on gas extracted from vertical wells for a hundred years. It was never at risk of running out.
Potter's Marcellus gas is going elsewhere.
The price hike helps fund more drilling allowing them to ship more gas to foreign countries.
We allowed the industry to make us a laughing-stock.

Can you "unhook" from a natural gas line and put in a propane tank or a wood boiler?

Sorry but nows not the time to raise ng prices. There are way to many gas wells coming on line. Profits are one thing but price gouging should be a crime. World market prices I suppose is the excuse. World market prices should be a crime for things produced in our back yard. Our government looking out for the world market is B.S. Our government should look after its own first and eff the rest.
