Leasing Success is “Your Choice”

The variety of issues facing all who are considering leasing, or renewing a lease, are based on the many decisions that must be made. Where does one go for straight information … not hearsay, not diner-talk? Hopefully they go to professionals rather than listen to the words of a “door-to-door” company representative. Meetings only reach those who have the time and inclination to attend. Articles, whether computer-generated or in print, only help those willing to read them. How many individuals does that leave out in the cold? If it’s one … that’s too many.

What neighbors do, good lease or bad, has a direct affect on other neighbors. It is in everyone’s best interest to enter into a sound leasing agreement, one that doesn’t last till eternity unless it’s on the “mother lode of rights”.

It’s just as important to ensure the well-being of the environment by including strong clauses that preserve and/or improve the land … surface and sub-surface. This doesn’t have to be accomplished by addendum after addendum if the lease is well-written to begin with. Addendums are added for the “specials” like timber stands, sugar bush stands, fish ponds. Addendums are included in Group Leases to take care of the individuals who need them. They allow for the individualizing of a Group’s leasing agreement.

How many have the time to compare prices and conditions between numerous companies, and negotiate a lease that can provide the greatest benefit to the land and our wallets? Knowing the lingo and market conditions, the highlights of our region that make our resources even more valuable, and how to negotiate using split second timing on a corporate level are all “specifics” that are a must.
Whatever interest we take in our region’s resources, be assured that Corporate America and countries included in Corporate World endeavors TAKE AN EVEN HIGHER INTEREST. Leasing isn’t going away. The control and protection we have can only be determined by the choice’s we make.

Will we earn a Silk Purse through leasing with a Group, or settle for a Sow’s Ear by leasing as individuals or with a few neighbors? This isn’t a matter of greed. Our numbers are our strength. How valuable is our future to us?
