Dorwin A. Furman

COUDERSPORT, PA---Dorwin A. Furman, 60, of Coudersport, died in his home Thursday, September 22, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born September 6, 1951 in Coudersport, he was a son of Calvin D. and Beatrice Forster Furman.

Mr. Furman was a graduate of Coudersport High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, attaining the rank of E4.

He was previously employed as an assembler at Truck-Lite in Coudersport and had been a self-employed carpenter. He had also been employed as a school bus driver, making many friends of the students he drove.

Mr. Furman was a member of Potter Post #192 American Legion in Coudersport; a member of the Potter County Honor Guard; and a member of the Port Allegany Moose Club #460. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting.

Surviving besides his father of Coudersport, are his loving companion and former wife, Joyce Page Briggs of Coudersport; five children: Susan A. (Todd) Mountain of Pataskala, Ohio, William J. (Renata) Furman of Boalsburg, PA, Robert “Shane” Furman of Penn Yan, NY, Shawn D. C. Furman of Bristol, Tennessee, Tracey Eisenhuth of Bristol, Tennessee, and Randy Buchanan of Bradford, NY; seven grandchildren; three brothers, David B. Furman of Clarksville, Indiana, Frank D. (Katie) Furman of Coudersport, and David D. (Cathy) Furman of North Bingham; his former wives, Karen Kjar Furman and Connie McCurry Furman; two special friends who Dorwin considered his mother and father, Lewis and Lucille Dugans of Coudersport; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Potter Post #192 American Legion, Coudersport. The Rev. Richard Kuehlman, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Coudersport, will officiate. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery, Ulysses.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors on Tuesday at Potter Post #192 American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter County Hospice, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915; to Patterson Cancer Center, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915; or to Potter Post #192 American Legion, Route 872, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
