Man & Woman Identified In Attempted Murder Of Troopers

Addison man jailed, woman jailed after attempted murder of troopers

By John Anderson Daily Reporter

(Story by Andrew Poole and John Anderson)

An Addison man is facing attempted murder charges after being arrested Tuesday afternoon by state police in connection with shots fired at troopers earlier the same day.

Bath-based state police charged Richard E. Vangorden, 38, of 573 Brennen Road, with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On Wednesday afternoon, troopers told the Daily Reporter and the Evening Tribune that Christine L. Stevens, 19, no address given, was in the truck with Vangorden. She was released from Jones Memorial Hospital and taken to the trooper barracks in Bath. She has not been charged in connection to the shooting, but she is being held on a bench warrant from the City of Corning court for a previous petit larceny charge.

Stevens was sent to the Steuben County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Vangorden was arraigned in Bath Town Court before Judge Chauncey Watches at close to 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and sent to the Steuben County jail without bail. He is scheduled to reappear with an attorney in Bath town court at 3 p.m. Wednesday. More...
