Marcellus Gas Drillers Making Jobs----In Wisconsin

Dunn County sand plant could bring up to 100 jobs; residents wary

By Pamela Powers Menomonie News Bureau

Leader-Telegram

RUSK, Wisconsin - A proposed sand processing plant on about 160 acres just east of Menomonie could bring 75 to 100 jobs to the area, the developers said Monday.

Radnor, Pa.-based Preferred Sands, which has operations in Nebraska, Arizona and Minnesota, wants to build the plant on property in the town of Red Cedar to process sand mined from Chippewa County.

They said the processing plant would be a $75 million to $100 million project, which would translate to about $45,000 to $70,000 in town tax revenue. Preferred Sands hopes to start building it in the spring.

Workers would be paid in the mid-$30,000 range for lower-end jobs and up to $200,000 for chemists plus benefits, Balitsaris said.

Sand found in Chippewa County and elsewhere in the region is considered particularly hard, round and porous, making it ideal for use in a process to extract petroleum and natural gas from the ground. In Chippewa Falls, Houston-based EOG Resources is opening a sand processing plant at the end of October. There are about 40 operating or proposed sand mines in west-central Wisconsin. More...

"Residents wary"? 9% unemployment
prices going up, no one in charge of the country, and residents are wary of 100 jobs coming from natural resources?? Oh I forgot, its easier to collect welfare and unemployment year after year after year........Thank me, Im working and supporting your worthless @#ses

The eco freaks will try and shut this down! They don't need jobs!

We are not worthless. We use our welfare dollars provided by you to buy steak and shrimp and play the lottery. Ths gives farmers and fishermen jobs.

yes, I'm quite sure that's exactly what their concerns are 9:17. their all afraid they'll be motivated to get off welfare

(sarcasm if you couldn't detect it)

you people are like a broken record. do you just soak up whatever you hear on tv as the gospel? if the world was the way your delusions paint it, it would be 99% unemployment, not 9.

you know, every single person I know works. Every single one, and I know a lot of people. Perhaps these people actually have legitimate concerns?

nah, i'm sure i'm just crazy and everyone in society is being supported by 9:17's one single job.

I get more from being on Unemployment than the jobs that are being offered. Seriously, think about it. Would you take a job that pays less than your Unemployment?

Well, 12:24,what are ya going to do when your unemployment runs out? Go on welfare? Probably.

Anonymous said...

Well 2:50, ask me in 2 years when it runs out, by that time we will have someone in charge that will actually produce jobs, in the mean time, I will sit back, and enjoy, while watching the "working man" make less than me. I just wished I got paid weekly instead of bi- weekly. I will most likely get more than 2 years unemployment, thats what Obama is pushig for..sweet!

Unemployment & welfare, the best thing since slice bread! MMMMM, I think I'll have a slice of gourmet bread paid for by you working people. Awwww the life.

Anonymous said...

Oh my goodness 3:07, go ahead & deepend upon change! please save yourself your breath! You sound worse than the welfare people & Obama will never get in office again to make it so you can sit on your duff longer than two yrs!!!

10:17, you are a fool. WAKE-UP!.

I thank God and my parents I was brought-up to work and be responsible. The rest of you freeloaders are worthless human beings. But you dont care because you dont know any better.

By the time obama is out of office we all might have to be on welfare !!!

I love my unemployment. Unemployment means more hunting!

Anonymous said...

You gotta be sick 8:40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like unemployment but not as much as hunting, give me hunting before unemployment! Each to their own! unemployment is like being on welfare! sorry Dude!

There is actually desprite people out there who need unemployment and welfare. But there is too many young and older women/men out there popping out kids every two years and live on welfare most their lives! Make them work a little for it at least. With healthcare cars and everything paid for them?! Wtf! And alot of young people on ssi that clearly can work! I drive junk to a work, bust my ass at a deadend job which makes you candyass pencil pushing, ssi collecting lives easier and putt back to a not so great home. Can't afford healthcare, repairs to my car, gas, house, insurance, utilitys when I'm slaving for $8 an hour! But ya know what, I get up and do it everyday, take pride in how I live, take pride in back breaking work( that 75% of today's Americans can't do sick ik) and too proud to ask for handouts when it's only too easy to take advantage. Lower middle-class real men should be running this country. When something is broke real men go fix it or learn to fix while the rest you pu$$ys call someone else!

Gov't very rarely produces enough jobs to help....free enterprise & capitalism -- that is what produces new jobs & job growth. I don't believe that FDR intended for welfare to be a career! I strongly believe that God helps those who help themselves. Sure...we all need help from our community, friends & family once in awhile to get us on our feet but really -- to "purposely" become a burden on those people & society - that is what is termed LAZINESS! I feel like a good percentage of the other posters on here....you have to work (hard) for what you get in life & that is what makes you appreciate it. It is also those hard-working folks that donate monies to charity, etc. (beside their hard-earned wages to taxes which help support your sorry a$$). How about we challenge you to go out there & use some of those gov't funded programs to go back to school; get an education to help contribute to a better society. I challenge all of us to become a stronger; better mortar on the next generation's wall. Let's raise 'em right!

But yet, nobody answered my question? Would you take a job that is less than what you are making on Unemployment? Would you take a pay cut, lose your unemployment.. just to say, " I have a job!"

Anonymous said...

2:12:00pm Your unemployment WILL run out... Your future employer will want to know what you have been up to the past few years. Won`t look good on your resume dawg ! I wouldn`t hire you.

Anonymous said...

Novel idea: If you want welfare, you have to live a year in Mexico FIRST.

Anonymous said...

2:12, NO, I wouldnt either

Anonymous said...

3:09, I wouldn't hire you either, because you do not comprehend my question. This is a simple qustion! Would you take a job, that would pay less that you are making on unemployment? Simple question! Nobody here can give me a logical answer. Only jabs about welfare, but this isn't about welfare, but staying on unemployment because it pays more than the jobs offered in Potter County..now..that we have that settled..can anyone agree with what I am saying?

You'd be a fool to take a job that paid you less money than you get on unemployment.

It's still TAKING money, any way you look at it. Not WORKING for it.
I'd rather be a FOOL than a TAKER. Shame on you Jim. Bet you won't print this one.

If I was on unemployment, I would suck the system dry. I would feed, clothe and shelter my family. And if I was to apply for a job and was questioned why I was on unemployment for so long I would say ... "Call the White House and ask our President".
