Susan Kay Martiny, 68, of 119 Elizabeth Street, Lakewood, NY, formerly of San Diego, Ca, Kingsville, TX, Jeddah Saudi Arabia, Summer Haven in Mayville

Susan Kay Martiny, 68, of 119 Elizabeth Street, Lakewood, NY, formerly of San Diego, Ca, Kingsville, TX, Jeddah Saudi Arabia, Summer Haven in Mayville, NY, and 90 East Terrace Avenue, Lakewood, NY passed away Monday, August 22nd, 2011 at her residence.

Born May 27, 1943, in Bradford she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Pearl (Rapchick) McAlpine.

On August 18, 1968 she married Edward F. Martiny in San Diego, CA. who survives.

Mrs. Martiny was a 1961 graduate of Bradford High School. She attended Alfred State Technical College, graduated from San Diego State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and attended the University of Michigan Summer Graduate Teaching Extension Programs on Mallorca in the Balearic Islands.

She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church as well as Hurlbut United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, Parables Gospel Singing Group and the Eta Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

She worked as a secretary at Speer Resistor and Dresser Manufacturing in Bradford, PA. She taught 4th grade at Parent's Cooperative School in Saudi Arabia for 5 years, Sunday School at Hurlbut Church in Chautauqua, New York for 7 years, and as Education Director for the Lakewood United Methodist Church in Lakewood, New York from 2006 until 2009. Susan was selected as Laity person of the year for her service with the Lakewood Church in 2002.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons: Christopher Edward Martiny of Brooklyn, NY, and Robert “Robbie” Douglas Martiny of Lakewood, NY, and three nieces Kim, Cheryl, and Shelley McAlpine. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother John F. McAlpine who died in January of 1975 and nephew Mark Allen McAlpine who died in 2010. Susan was a loving wife and mother who was devoted to her family.

Due to Susan’s election to participate in The University of Buffalo’s Anatomical Gift Program, there will be no visitation or funeral. Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Susan’s Life memorial service which will be held Saturday October 8th at 11:00 AM at the Lakewood United Methodist Church located at 165 Shadyside Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park Cemetery in Bradford, PA.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church at 164 Shadyside Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750 and The American Cancer Society Buffalo Hope Lodge at 197 Summer Street, Buffalo, NY 14222.
