Meetings Set On ‘Trail Town’ development!

Warren and McKean county residents:
Please help students gather data on ‘Trail Town’ development!

A class of research students from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has teamed up with the ANF Visitor Bureau to hold a series of town hall meetings this month in two Pennsylvania Wilds counties exploring the idea of “Trail Towns.” The meetings are being held in Warren and McKean counties, where several land and water trails are being developed or growing in popularity.

The town hall meetings aim to gauge public support for trail town development in the area and identify potential next steps for growing trail-related tourism. In addition to the public meetings, the students will also conduct surveys and visit nationally-recognized trail towns before releasing their final findings in December, said their instructor, Dr. William Schumann, an Assistant Professor of Anthropology.

PA Wilds partners strongly encourage trail enthusiasts to attend the meetings. The data collected will not only be useful to the communities involved, but to other similar efforts in the region – including, maybe, helping shape the PA Wilds Planning Team’s next regional trails conference in 2012. Local partners have already asked conference organizers to focus on trail town development, so kudos to the students at Pitt Brad and to the ANF VB for this timely research!

One meeting has already been held in Bradford but three others are slated:

Smethport, Oct. 11, 6 p.m., Desert Rose Café;

Kane/Mt. Jewett, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., Kane Community Center

Warren, Oct. 25, 7 p.m., Jefferson DeFrees Family Center

Hope to see you there!
