Chief asks court to speed ruling on lawsuit

Lawsuit by residents holding up pipeline:
Chief Gathering LLC wants the court to hurry up on a suit against residents of an exclusive housing development, but a federal judge says the company hasn't adequately proved it belongs in his jurisdiction.

The Dallas, Texas-based company is asking the U.S. Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania to resolve by Nov. 15 whether running a natural gas pipeline through Goodleigh Estates violates the Dallas Township development's protective covenants and constitutes a nuisance, according to recently filed documents.

In a countersuit:
Chief is seeking from the Dicksons and Watkinses a minimum of $683,000 - and potentially more than $18 million - to cover expenses they allege would be caused by the residents' delaying tactics. The company also wants to recover attorneys' fees and collect extra damages from the residents for making "defamatory and malicious" statements in local media and on Facebook.

"Punitive damages are also appropriate in this case to punish each of the Dickson/Watkins defendants for their intentional and outrageous conduct and to deter them and others like them from engaging in such conduct in the future," the suit states. Read more...
