William R. "Bill" Smith, 64, of Coleville entered the Gates Of Heaven, Wednesday, October 19th, 2011.

Born January 9, 1947, in Orange, NJ, he was a son of W. William Smith of Verona, NJ and the late Isabel (McGahey) Smith.

On June 2, 2000 in Easton, he married Judy (Vecellio) Smith, who survives, and he cherished their eleven years together.

Mr. Smith was a 1964 graduate of West Essex High School in Caldwell, NJ. After high school he joined the United States Air Force and was a Veteran of the VIetnam War, he was honorably discharged after 20 years of service. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Hughes Aircraft in CA, and then Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies in Whippany, NJ until the late 1990's. In 2003, he and his wife moved to Coleville and he began his consulting business with computers.

He was a member and trustee of Coleville Christian Gospel Church. He was passionate about serving the Lord, Our Savior and died while making a difference in the lives of many people with whom he shared the amazing truth of the Gospel. He was a member and served on the state cabinet of Gideon’s International, dedicated to Bible distribution and evangelism. He loved to travel with his wife and distributed countless Bibles to people all over the United States. In addition to his love of the Lord, he was an Eagle Scout, an avid fisherman, and lifetime member of Veteran of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Kimberly (Lawrence) Luba of Byram, NJ; Amber (Jason Anten) Smith of Tacoma, WA; Kathy Gallardo of Olympia, WA; Beth (Michael) Birtcil of Smethport, and Heather (Michael) Kulak of Beaverfalls; a son, Samuel (Denise) Baumgardner of Aberdeen, WA; two brothers, John "Jack" Smith of Tomball, TX; and Kenneth Smith of Verona, NJ; 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; his first wife Gloria (Bozick) Smith of Elyria OH; and several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by one brother, Robert Smith and one great-grandson, Johnathan Michael Kulak.


Family will be receiving friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., East Main St, where funeral and committal services will be held at 5:00pm with Pastor Tom Dunkerton, of the Coleville Christian Gospel Church officiating.
