Gas explodes in Bedford County

By WJAC Web Staff

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa.

An overnight gas well explosion in Bedford County has fire crews from three states busy Thursday morning.

Emergency officials responding to the scene tell 6 News the explosion happened shortly before 1 Thursday morning. The gas well is located along Crooked Run Road in the southern section of Bedford County near the Maryland border. They say no one was injured in the blast.

Dave Cubbison with Bedford County emergency services says the fire can be seen from 30 miles away. About 40 to 50 homes were evacuated, forcing nearly 150 people to take shelter. Dispatchers say evacuees south of the location were taken to the Orleans Fire Department, while those evacuees north of it found their own shelter with friends and family.

Emergency officials say the evacuees should be allowed to return to their homes around daybreak. More...

So your headline of well exploding is totally incorrect and misleading.

Breaking early reports don't always get it right. TV has a saying "First at 7, correct at 11". Apparently the first report was not accurate.
