Bertha V. Larson, 90, of Bradford, formerly of Smethport, PA

Smethport - Bertha V. Larson, 90, of Bradford, formerly of Smethport, died Wednesday (November 9, 2011) in the Bradford Ecumenical Home, Bradford.

She was born Sept. 20, 1921 in Kasson, a daughter of Arvid and Ada Swanson Hjelm. On June 11, 1965 in Crosby, PA, she married Richard A. Larson, who died Oct. 31, 2002.

Mrs. Larson was a 1939 graduate of Smethport High School and had worked at Leonard Johnson’s Pharmacy, Smethport Specialty, and the Smethport Diner. Ultimately, she was a homemaker tending to the needs of her family.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Port Allegany.

She is survived by
two sons: Roger M. (Judy) Larson of Lewis Run and Gary L. (Jamie) Larson of Bradford, PA
one sister: Eleanor Olson of Rockford, IL
one brother: William Hjelm of Denver , CO
3 grandsons: Roger M. (Sarah) Larson, II and Richard M. (Sherena) Larson both of Hope Mills, NJ; Daniel J. Larson of Lewis Run, PA;
1 granddaughter: Jennifer M. (Robert) Morris of Lewis Run, PA;
step grandchildren: Amy Holsinger of Uniondale, PA, Tina Cary of Custer City, and Joel Johnson of Leesburg, GA.
8 step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. J.T. Madison, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Port Allegany, and the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church, Port Allegany, or Chapel Ridge, 200 St. Francis Dr., Bradford, PA 16701. Online condolences can be left at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
