Drillers Spend $3,200,000.00 To Influence NY Officials

As hydrofracking decision nears in N.Y., industry spending soars

Saturday, November 26, 2011

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Energy companies have been pouring millions of dollars into television advertising, lobbying and campaign contributions as the administration of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo enters the final phase of deciding when and where to allow a controversial form of natural gas extraction that is hotly opposed by environmental groups.

Companies that drill for natural gas have spent more than $3.2 million lobbying state government since the beginning of last year, according to a review of public records. The broader natural gas industry has been giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to the campaign accounts of lawmakers and the governor. And national energy companies are heavily advertising in an effort to persuade the public that the extraction method, commonly known as hydrofracking, is safe and economically beneficial.

Environmental groups, with far less money at their disposal, are mounting a more homespun campaign as they warn that hydrofracking -- a process in which water mixed with sand and chemicals is injected deep into the ground to break up rock formations and release natural gas -- could taint the water supply and wreak untold environmental ruin. What about the money they are bringing to local business like motels, restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, shopping malls, doctors offices, hospitals? How come none of you can see what a boon it is to local businesses? I don't even LIKE politicians and I hate to see them get a PENNY of kick-back from drilling but I sure am happy for the local business in this terrible time of recession and job loss. Some of you people are just clueless and really should find something productive to do instead of spout off on here about things that you know nothing about. Like , maybe, GET A JOB?!? Oh, wait, you tried that with the drilling outfits, and couldn't get hired. Ok. I get it. Loosers!

You are 100% right about all the increases, BUT what if they told the truth and hired local? Would we see the massive increase?

Thye hire mostly EXPERIENCED laborers. In the gas industry that is necessary. Can't just pull some John Doe off the street with no experience to do a lot of the jobs that drilling wells requires. Duh!

The Deleware river basin is controlled by more then just Pa and NY. I would be supprised if they ever got a permit to drill, no matter how much money the industry throws at them.

Then why 3:57, did they LIE to us and tell us there were gonna be tons of local people hired???
