M. Jeanette Wasson, 94, formerly of Rixford, PA

Rixford, PA – M. Jeanette Wasson, 94, formerly of Rixford, passed away Thursday (Oct. 27, 2011) at the Emeritus of Lakewood, N.Y., nursing home following a brief illness.

Born Oct. 23, 1917, in Wila, she was a daughter of Curtis Austin and Ruth Leinaweaver Scott. On June 12, 1939, in Newport, she married Albert D. Wasson Jr., who passed away March 16, 1992.

Jeanette was a 1934 graduate of Newport High School and graduated from Indiana (Pa.) Teachers College in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science in education.

She had resided in Rixford from 1938 until she moved to Bemus Point, N.Y., in 2005.
She was employed in the reading and English department of Otto-Eldred School District for 20 years until her retirement in 1971. Along with her husband, she owned and assisted in operating Wasson Motor Sales in Rixford for 45 years.

Jeanette was a member of the Duke Center United Methodist Church, Keystone Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star of Duke Center, was a former member of the Duke Center Garden Club and was a member of the Otto Township Red Hat Ladies and McKean County Retired Teachers Association. She also volunteered for the Eldred WWII Museum and Eldred Elementary School.

Jeanette was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and board games.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Foster of Duke Center and Kathye (Alfred) Unglaub of Bemus Point; five grandchildren, Kim (Randy) Shay, Barry (James Locke) Foster, Cara (Heath) Daniell, Jonathan (Naoko) Unglaub and Suzann (Roger) Trevisan; and five great-grandchildren, Ryan Shay, Cory (Caty) Shay, Macy Daniell, Madeline Trevisan and Nicholas Trevisan.

She was predeceased by a brother, Luther Scott; and a son-in-law, Jack Foster, in 2010.

Private visitation and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Glenn Hamilton, pastor emeritus of the Lighthouse Community Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Bemus Point Library, P.O. Box 428, Bemus Point, NY 14712; Duke Center United Methodist Church; or the Otto Township Fire Department.

Arrangements are under direction of the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, Pa.
