STUDENT NURSE ORGANIZATION, SIFE TO HOLD ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE

STUDENT NURSE ORGANIZATION, SIFE TO HOLD ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Student Nurse Organization and Students in Free Enterprise chapter will hold a food drive through Nov. 22 to help those less fortunate during the holiday season.

Samantha McGriff, a nursing major from Bradford who is president of SNO, and Dan Robinson, a nursing major from Gifford who is co-president of SNO, said members wanted to collect food to help supply local food banks and organizations because it is likely that more people will need assistance due to the current economy.

“We wanted to do something to help and make a difference for as many people as we can,” McGriff said.

Nonperishable food items can be brought to campus and dropped in bins located in the Frame-Westerberg Commons, Swarts Hall, Fisher Hall, Campus Police building, Hanley Library, Wick Chapel or the Sport and Fitness Center.

In addition, those attending sporting events at the Sport and Fitness Center can get $1 off their ticket price by bringing a nonperishable food item to the event.

SNO and SIFE students will gather and deliver the food to food banks and organizations in the community before Thanksgiving. Expired food cannot be accepted.

Mary Boser, assistant professor of nursing and SNO advisor, and Tonya Ackley, coordinator of community engagement, are overseeing the project.
