TRACK Raised Money For New OV Track, BUT..........

TRACK Raised Money For New OV Track, BUT....

As most in the area are aware. the TRACK organization in Shinglehouse, PA has been very busy for the past 3 years fundraising to build a new all weather running track at OV High School. We have finally raised enough money to have the track built this spring. Unfortunately, the school board is continuing to push back and doesn’t seem to show much enthusiasm for the construction project.

We are asking all tax payers in the OV School District to contact the school board and tell them to vote YES to build the new track.

Can you please post this information on your web site. Many hours of blood, sweat, and tears have been poured into this project by TRACK members and Non-TRACK members alike. The community has provided us with nearly $200,000.00 to build this track, so lets get it built.

Thank you very much,
Kevin George

The community that has supported this project in the fundraising has stretched way beyond the outskirts of Shinglehouse. Alumni, friends and families have rallied from all over the USA to support our effort.

I truely think the majority of the school board does want to see this happen and most likely only a few have their own agenda or thoughts on other projects they feel are more important. TRACk will remain here to continue growth in our town.

Thank you Oswayo Valley school Board for the multiple opportunities you have given me and this group to show our support for this project. We are professionals living and working in your community. We are the tax-payers and we did cast the votes to put you in your position.
Please take this to vote on Monday and let us fund this project. We have done everything you have asked and have come through.
We are T.R.A.C.K.-
Together Rebuilding- Alumni, Community and Kids!

As Vice-President of TRACK we will not use this blog as a board bashing site- we are professionals and will remain so. All forms of media must be used to update our supporters county wide.

Thank you-
Michelle Filer

I'd like the board members to post here why they are dragging their feet. What's going on with these people?

Jerry Austin, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia said...

Lets be more specific since some of us can't come to board meetings. Who are those dragging their feet and make them give an explanation. If this money was raised for a specific reason which I believe it is intended who are they to deviate from it when the amount needed comes to fruition. You can be voted out and I for one won't have the patience or inclination to listen to the whys on not building this track.

Does the $200,000 cover the entire cost of the track?

Anonymous said...

wicker needs to go.

Umm last time I knew TRACK was about 35k short on the funds so maybe just be patient.

I am amazed and confused, I don't understand what the reason could be for trying to put it off. The community came together and raised the funds it seems to me the school board should be very proud of their community and be in a rush to get the track built and show off what a wonderful community they live in.

Years ago, Port Allegany citizens raised enough to put in lights at the field-no expense to the taxpayers and it didn't go through. Sometimes I wonder why people drag their feet when there is a strong outside interest to make improvements.

So you raised 200 thousand dollars but didn't have the ok to build it?

Well it seems the OV School Board is not getting a good name for themselves. 1st the wrestling coach debacle and now there hesitancy to build a much needed track for the students and community. I think a show of support at the next school board meeting, which is open to the public on monday the 14th at 7 is in order. Let's get behind the T.R.A.C.K folks and get this done!!!

I would also like to hear comments from the board members, and a list of their names as well. I can't imagine what could be a reason to stall, anxious to hear both sides...

I agree with Michelle, if you want answers GO to the SCHOOL BOARD meeting. If they see a lot of parents, and towns people they will have to answer your questions or VOTE them out at the next election!!!!!!

Here we go again! Everyone has an agenda, unfortunately that is the only time they open their mouth!

The current track was built years ago by the blood, sweat,
and tears of community members who donated their time, materials, and equipment. This track was not maintained or upgraded over the years as is evidenced by its present condition.
Has anyone (board or T.R.A.C.K.) made plans for the maintenance of the new track in the years to come?

Has this new track been designed by an engineer or is it a pipe dream of some local residents who have no idea of the structure needed? that may be a place for all you people to start looking.

PS not a school board member. but if we build somthing that is junk then the tax payers will have to repair or replace it.

Then all the good that was done by the TRACK people will have been done in vain.

Thank you for your time and efforts but why not follow through and do it right.

Kudos and dildines to TRACK and it's supporters.
Best thing is to invest the money adn earn some interest while the school district develops a long range plan that can incorporate the private donation. It won't happen overnight but a logical plan with deadlines and such makes a lot of sense.
Again plenty of dildines and kudos go out to the ambitious people who formed TRACK.

Everybody, including the school board wants the new track to succeed. Please allow them to follow the legal process to have it done correctly. The school is not owned by the School Board, it is state ran. And the state can come in tomorrow and close it (the school) if they want to. Any change to the building or grounds needs to be approved by the State (and plans to make the change filed)

Best of Luck school board and track team. It has been a long time coming, and you are almost done!

change the name TRACK to WICKER and it will be built tomorrow.that school board is a joke.maybe they will mail yo a letter like the wrestling coach that says the matter is resolved and will not betabled again.

Well I think we have all jumped to conclusions here. The vote is Monday night. There are 18 comments here besides mine so I expect to see at least 17 people there since I am sure Jerry can't make it. Lets give them a chance. It would be a shame for them to vote no. If they vote no what does that tell our children who want to do something for their childs school when they get older? Don't bother? It is of no use. I am not sure who all the members of the school board are (shame on me) but I will Monday night. I hope that we will be able to post that this was passed. If not I hope there is a mighty fine reason. To see a group of people like those of T.R.A.C.K attack an issue with such diligence has been a bright spot in the Oswayo Valley school district. I wish them the best of luck in their quest to get this passed.

whose got the money ? I hope it's not sitting in a bank that offers a one percent on it's return... If it does your all fools....

Almost a quarter of a million dollars for a ring of pavement?

Sounds like someone is set to profit significantly off of the "blood sweat and tears" of the community.

If you can get the cost down to 5 figures, come back and we'll talk.

VOTE NO
Sounds overpriced to me.

I agree that we should give kudos and dildines to T.R.A.C.K. The school board members are regular people like you and me and they have a responsibility to look at the big picture. Maybe this will take longer than some people want but with patience this can happen. So thanks to T.R.A.C.K. for getting this started.

If they can't built the track, then the damn school had better not be getting one cent of the $200,000.00.

sure seems that ov is in the news a lot this year. wonder why

I recieved a letter from Mr. Bob Whiteman stating that the board would vote on partnering with the T.R.A.C.K. association on Monday night. He let us know that the board came up with some questions after we left that would need addressed. He was not certain how this will be done but said that most likey they would add the questions as stipulations in the wording of the motion that would be voted upon. I do know some of the questions that were raised and both Michelle and I feel we should get together prior to the board vote to address their questions. Let's plan on meeting at the high school library at 6:00 p.m. Monday night.
Here is partial list of questions:

1. A project manager may need to be put in place to protect the district and the T.R.A.C.K. association.

2. The initial report stating the need for erosion and sediment control needs to be addressed.

3. An attorney needs to look over the contracts before they are signed.

4. The necessity of a performance bond needs to be addressed.

5. Perform a perk test.

6. Spraying will need to be done by someone certified to meet state regulations.

These are valid concerns that we will address as a team.

well well well....the politics continue, the statement made earlier about the cost I agree $200.000 is a lot for a track, but when the individuals involved in the construction sink there teeth in the price is always four time as much, just like everything else he built in Shinglehouse ie the library. So ,the price of $200.000 is correct for a $35,000 dollar track in the towns blind eye...

Dear 10:58,
Okay dingbat....Otto-Eldred just built a new track and the only thing in addition was the fence. Price tag = $500,0000! They HAD to pay prevailing wages.
TRACK group paying the contractors to do the job cuts over 40% of the cost. OV would be happy with the existing fence. They do not need to be fancy- just usable and safe. Its not only about the asphalt, the top coat is the expensive kicker but gives the quality and ability to compete with the other schools.

Who built the library???

By the time this issue is resolved, the dildines and kudios will be going to the school board and the TRACK group for working together to get this done.

I care. Do You? said...

No; I’m not of Oswayo School or district, but I know people from half way and even from the State of Washington who help support this cause. Yes; they were taking a chance on winning a Cabin, but also, same as myself, knew it was a slim chance. But because this fund drive was so well put together and was for a very good cause, them and myself supported it. We were very concern that they were able to clear a profit on their campaign. Sounds like they did and even thou we didn’t win we are very pleased with how they did. To us that was more important than winning.
Now there should be grants out there to help with any thing needed and instead of banging this project around, go look for them. What ever little you can do will help out.
And problems of other nature are not just at Oswayo, Austin, Coudersport and Northern Potter. It’s all over the country. If there is a problem, see what you as a person can do to help correct it. Gossiping is natural, but it never helps to solve the problem.
