4.0 Magnitude earthquake strikes near Youngstown

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck this afternoon in a rural area near Youngstown, Ohio.

The earthquake struck at 3:04 p.m. in an area about five miles northwest of Youngstown and six miles southeast of Warren.

It was the latest in a series of minor quakes in the area in 2011, though residents say Saturday's appeared to be stronger than others. Many have struck near an injection well used to dispose of brine water that's a byproduct of oil and gas drilling. More...

What about all these millions of residential and municipal water wells taking water out of the aquifier.Surely that would have a larger effect than one injection well.

When are our political officles going to wake up.....There is no way you can drill down that far and then explode in great magnitude the shale to release the gas without causing the very thing that holds the upper layers of earth not to quake also,(period)....Common sense
