Cracker Could Restore Pittsburgh Area Economy/Create Thousands Of Jobs

Ethane cracking plant in region could create 'thousands' of jobs

HARRISBURG -- State officials are engaged in a high-stakes but low-key battle to land a chemical plant that would make gas from the Marcellus Shale even more valuable.

Prefacing his comments by noting the confidentiality agreement that he and others have signed, Pennsylvania's top economic development official confirmed that the state has been aggressively wooing several companies interested in locating an ethane cracker in Appalachia.

Such a facility has been the source of speculation in news reports for months. A spokeswoman for energy giant Shell says three states -- Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia -- remain finalists for the plant.

It is nice to read of "making jobs" for PA.

thousands of job ... how many part-time? 99% of them?

it is nice to read about job creation, but most of the time it is just part-time jobs. and they are taken by those already working part-time jobs.

Isn't it nice our officials are seeking more destructive, environmentally dangerous and hazardous companies to our state, so they too can get away with not paying taxes, or hiring our people for full time pay. One more reason to get out of Pa. This state is doomed.

Cracker plants create more than a few jobs. One exists in close proximity to the OH/PA border, NW of Pittsburgh. Our bounty of natural gas will only do produce prosperity for the state and our country if we continue to develop it. Expanded pipelines, cracker plants, compressor stations, etc. must all be a part of our future unless we want to count on foreign sources for our future resource development. Recently it was announced in an industry journal that China has developed "cracker" technology that far outshines what the U.S. has ... this in anticipation of our increased natural gas production and ever-increasing uses for natural gas. Do we really want to go down that road?

China has developed "cracker" technology that far outshines what the U.S. has ...

Then let China come do it for us and maybe we'll have less accidents.

They aren`t drilling in your back yard are they Janice ? You live in a state that doesn`t permit drilling. You make your living as a middleman to this industry.
