Freddy A. Tompkins, 77, of 84 Plum St. , Bolivar, NY

BOLIVAR, NY - Freddy A. Tompkins, 77, of 84 Plum St. passed away Sunday (Dec. 18, 2011) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville following a lengthy illness.

Born May 22, 1934, in Bolivar, he was a son of Sydney and Alta Ryder Tompkins. On Nov. 6, 1954, in Olean, he married the former Donna Steadman, who survives.

Fred was a graduate of Bolivar Central School, class of 1954, and served with the U.S. Army National Guard for 15 years.

He was employed by Acme Electric Corp. in Cuba for 45 years prior to his retirement.
Fred was a 45-year member of the Bolivar Fire Department and a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners in Bolivar.

Surviving besides his wife of 57 years are four children, Frederick (Ann) Tompkins of Olean, Thomas Tompkins of Bolivar, Danny (Karen) Tompkins of Richburg and Laura Tompkins of Jamestown; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Penny Tompkins; three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., Bolivar, where funeral services were held Thursday (Dec. 22, 2011) at with Pastor Dick Helms officiating. Burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.

Memorials to the Bolivar Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 460 Main St., Bolivar, NY 14715 would be appreciated by the family.
